Jaishankar passed away a few days back.
We could take a nostalgic trip down by discussing his hit songs..
My favourites are
Anbulla Maan Vizhiye Aasaiyil or kadhidham - Kuzhandhaiyum Deivamum
Paarvai Ondrey Poodhumey. (Even though this is lifted from a hindi classic by Asha -still sounds great).
Ammamma Kannathil Kannam Vaithu (Even though he doesnt appear during this song he was the hero)
Poovenum Melliya Poonkodi - Kannan Varuvaan.
Jai provided an alternative to the superstars of the time and always had his own place. His movies were entertaining.

Jai Sankar, Muthuraman were symbolic of the golden and the simple age of Tamil movies in the 60s and 70s. I miss these two, who will continue to stay in the minds of general public because of idyllic times that they represented in the movies.
I feel that our times are fading away faster after Jai Sankar's departure.

folks,
This is a more general question.
I have nothing against Jai Shanker or anyone else.
Please do not think it in another way.
Why do people tend to discuss the good deeds of a person after he is gone? Why not do that when someone is living?
Sandaikku varatheengappa. :-)

Bug:
What you have raised is a very interesting question. In my opinion, the following is the reason why people talk more about one's goodness after death than when they are alive:
When someone is alive and everything is normal, we tend to focus more on day to day activities and contexts with which we refer to people, For eg: when Jaishankar was alive, if we happen to have a discussion it probably would have been on merits/demerits of his latest strings of movies, comments on something he said, did, atteneded recently etc.
But now after his death, one gets a chance to take a step back and see his life as a whole. It becomes a different perspective and one comes to a consideration that there are so many positives. i think it is this different perspective of taking a step back and seeing one's life as a whole that allows people to say good things after one's demise.

Even when he was alive people talked about how good a person Jaishankar was. Very few actors are talked about that way.

Really film industry did not give much importance to this versatile actor. he is a gem of men. really we miss a good actor who cannot be replaced.May his soul rest in peace. thanks to raja who started this topic and others for their good illustrations.

Krishna,
It is more of ethical or sentimental issues to talk good (only) about someone who is dead.I totally agree with it.Nobody wants to talk ill of a dead person.
But in my humble opinion i think all these eulogy are carried bit too far which I think is inappropriate.
We could have talked about the good deeds of Jai Shanker or somebodyelse when they were alive. This would have given them some "appreciation" and infact some "extra" motivation to do more.
Ofcourse there are several incidents wherein people are praised for their good deeds. I don't deny that.
My point is, when they are no more, their good deeds are extrapolated more than what is actaully been done.

Hi Bug,
Jai Shanker did have a good life, people did appreciated his work by going to his movies. His movie career did went more than couple of decades.
People now open up more because they feel the loss, by talking about that person, most of us feel better and go through the grieving process in a good way. All the eulogy and good talk about the dead is for the living , the ones that left behind.

Sathi,
Well said.Eulogy and other stuff is for the ones left behind. Good explanation.
Thanks.

Friends,
I had posted the following in some other thread a few weeks back. This thread is the ideal place for this write up!
A few months back, in Thuglak, a gentleman by name Veerayyaa, a veteran production organiser in the TF industry had serialised his 'Malarum ninaivugaL'. He had thanked Jaishankar profusely for trying his best to help him out in graduating into a producer . The film was 'paarukkuLLE nalla naadu', based on Cho's drama 'quo vadis?' .
( It is said that someone from the audience asked Cho why he was naming his plays in English / Hindi / Sanskrit such as Mind is a Monkey/ Dil Ek bandhar / Sambhavaami yugE yugE. He quipped 'My next play will have a title in Latin!!' and thus 'quo vadis?' (engE pOgiROm? was born!!) A few scenes/songs were shot in Rajasthan, but the film was stuck because Asokan's health started failing. Ultimately, with Asokan's passing away and a few more factors, the film never saw the light of the day! Jai was so large hearted that he didn't trouble Veerayya for returning the amount! At one stage, he even generously allowed Veerayya to explore the possibility of making a TV serial out of the original story. Mr Veerayya had ended the 'thodar' sincerely wishing that he could, one day, return at least a portion to Jai's family!

Kumar,
'veettukku oru piLLai' (1971-72) had Jai & Usha Nandini. It had a song sequence where they run around inside huge VeeraaNam pipes!! ( I don't know if they were original or studio-simulated!!!!)
