Subject: Dialogue with RPO on Symphony
Hi Guys...I just got the ID of the managing director
of RPO..and I just tried sending the mail..and I got some response...
My Mail.......
Hello Sir/Madam
I am from India, And I have been waiting very
patiently for the release of a work by an Indian, by name "Ilayaraaja". I heard the news that he had written a symphony and RPO had played and recorded the same, and this was conducted by John Scott. But I do not know if this symphony was released. And I do not see any reference to the same in the RPO website.
Can you please spare some time in replying. I am
desperate to know how the symphony is. And if you have heard it can you please comment on the same.
Thank you... Please reply...I would be greatful
Vijay
Response from Ian at
RPO...................................
Yes we did record the symphony and the master tapes were given to Ilayaraaja, however, as far as I know, the recording was never released
commercially.
With kind regards.

My Mail.........................................
Thank you very much for the kind reply...
But can you comment on the quality of the music that was written by him?. Or can you refer me to some site where I can find any information regarding the same.? And also do you know of any reason why it was never released?
It was never released in India.
Sorry to bother you with so many questions.
Thanks a lot
Vijay
RPO Response....................................
Yes the music was scored for a large orchestra and is very big and grand and flowing. I think he hoped that a deal would be done with Sony but it did not transpire.
After that I do not know what happened!

My Mail.............................................
Thanks again for a quick reply...Its good to hear from you so quickly. I am glad.
Is there any samples of the music anywhere in any
form? or are there any sites where I can get atleast a small bit of the symphony?
Ilayaraaja is respected as one of the greatest
Musicians here in india. But we never get to know the exact reason why it was not released yet.
Where can I get the exact story behind the making of this symphony?
Thanks a lot for the reply and sorry to bother you
Vijay

''Yes the music was scored for a large orchestra and is very big and grand and flowing.''-that rests atleast some of the doubters about the quality of the work!

No need for a separate thread. Its already posted in IR's album thread. Also, you could have revived "Whatever happened to IR's symphony" thread and posted it there. It is more relevant and could have got the same/needed/wanted attention.
