why, in muthu and padayappa, rajini's entry was maarked by a distinct theme. and of course, Baadsha, which had Bond-like music accompanying super star wherever he went.

Guys,
The worst theme music of ARR is from Taal. Listen to it, he has made all possible noises with his troupe in the name of Theme Music.

Dorai,
The theme of this thread is "theme music by IR". and why uncessarily talk about theme music of ARR here?
Btw, do you get any pleasure by igniting IR-ARR fan fights?
music, JEANS wasnt done by IR.

The greatest ever theme music is by ilayaraja in movie 'karpooramullai' where he has used vaagadeeswari raaga. the scene is amala (for the first time she speaks when she comes to know about her mother)speaking to srividya who is her mother a great classical singer. and whenever amala meets srividya in later scenes there is this great piece of work.

There haven't been much talked about films of late for which he's composed music(as most were not your typical well-publicized, big banner films)
The only latest hit, 'Sethu' I'm sure has some good theme music(I haven't seen the film, but have seen an emotional scene in an asylum on TV.)
I feel that technically well-made films have always drawn the audience's attention to the finer points, be it BGM, Theme Music, Art Direction, Lighting, Cinematography, Editing etc.
And the above listing seems to support this theory.
I'm longing to enjoy a great movie, by some of the best talents in town, with IR's music. Enough of this P. Vasu and Kasthuri Raja low-budget stuff. Enough of Onga Ooru PAttu, Enga Ooru PAttu, KAvakkAran, PookkAran, Senthamizh PAttukkaran, Murai MAman, Murai Ponnu, Murai Chittappa, Ngoppan Veettu Sothu etc.
Where are the Balu Mahendras, Mahendrans and Vishwanaths?(I'd love to take other names... unfortunately their interest lies elsewhere these days ;))
Fazil, here's looking forward to your next venture !

Amithi Padai the flute by Karthik Raja. That music
really put him on Top. There was a interview when the interviewer praised KR for his composition in amithipadai.
C.R
You got it . Vedu BGM was execellent. Extract of 'How to Name it' instrumental piece. The camera handling by Balu Mahendra goes very well in the background composition.
You remember when the movie section when they search for home then 'How to Name it ' BGM take into control
Theer other movies of IR which worth mentioning
like
Aboorva Sagotherkal.
Keladi Kanmani - Super
Mahanathi - Some even say part of BGM is extract of IR's Grand Symphony No 1
Talapathi
And many more ...even in Uthire Pookal...is breathtaking 1979
