Mahesh's Vaanam Vasappadum

Surprise comes in different packages. This time its in the form of a rather low hyped music release. PC Sriram's "Vaanam Vasappadum" by Mahesh. Before picking up the album, i thought that couple of songs would be good. But to my surprise all the songs on initial hearing completely knocked me down. Wow! Be it the rocky "Uyire Uyire" by Hariharan and ganga or the wonderfull duet "Kangal theendi" this album is sure the best of this year to me. Below is the list of the songs and my views on it. Let me know what you think of these songs guys!!
1. Vaanam Vasappadume - Timmy & Srinivas
I guess this is the title track. Great song this is . The song has a rockish feel to it.
2. Megame
Sung by harini. Didnt really impress me on initial hearing. Let me give the song a few more chances.
3. Kangal Theedi - Hariharan & Sujatha - Vairamuthu
THe way the song starts with sax is amazing. Hariharan and sujatha's melliflous voice then takes over. An wonderfull duet. One of the very best duet of this year. Listen to the sax, its been put to perfection in the song. Perfect tamil pronunication,( which eludes tamil songs of late!!) and great orchestration. An out of the world song. I'm hooked
4. Kanne Kanne
The song starts as a soft ballad and then . Very good rendition by srinivas.
5. Vaanam Uyaram
ANother duet by Harish Ragavendar and Gopika Poornima. Nice song. A good duet.
6. Uyire Uyire - Hariharan and ganga.
This one rocks!!. An absolute gem. No further explanation. Hear it to believe it. Wonderfull song.
7. Seithi Suda
Again a rockish song by Ranjith. Its a bit song. Good one.

Over all the album is a whiff of fresh air. Let me know what you think about the album guys.

  Yes I remember that story...it was indeed in Kalki. remember reading it regularly. There was a very frequent mention of Cubbon Park in the story (I presume that's where the she gets raped) and when I finally landed in Bangalore 3 years back and went to Cubbon park for the first time - I distinctly remembered this story!

  Nattamai, i also like offbeat movies. The last time i went for a commercial movie and thought not to see tamil cinema again was a horrendous movie called "Kangalal Kaithu sei". Man, that was a horror movie!!!It frightened me to death!!!:) Hope VV is not some where near that..Any way will watch the movie for the visual effect.

  songs r really good.that too that "hariharan" piece is fantastic.
  but i felt that the picturisatin of"vaanam" resembles much of "pachai niramae" including few steps and locations.

  Did anybody watch PCS interview yesterday on SUNTV ( May Day special), I couldn't understand 90% of what he was trying to say, It was really surprising, I was under the impression he was under the influence of some sort of inebrients. Hope the movie has come out well,
  
  was Meera PCS's first movie? how about" Nammavar" was it directed by PCS too?
  About "Kurudhi Punal", IMHO, "Drohkaal" was far ahead and better presented compared to tamil version, Although Tamil version was one of the finest films by Kamal and team given the horrendous worthless movies churned out by tamil movie industry, lot of overplay ( unusually) by Kamal especially the climax and unnecessary drags with Gouthami. ( I don't know why Kamal has to do that in every movie, although everyone knows that he has done that upteen number of times and proved many times to be good at those )
  I personally thought the movie " Kurudhipunal" was heavily ghost directed by kamal himself, like how he does with most of the movies he does with new directors.

  I watched Mathan's thiraiparvai in Vijay TV yesterday. PCS was present and answered Mathan's Qs. He couldn't convey the messages the way he wants. I found that PCS is not good at PR skills. He needs to improve them.

  I watch vanam vasapadum last night.. story is different and i feel you cant realy blame pc sriram's direction. But the heroin realy sucks. her acting, her Tamil both sucks! I think she is the one who spoilt the whole movie. Hero is ok and music is good.

  Sun TV interview - by PCS was so boring. Looks like he was intoxicated and could have avoided talking in formal Tamil. He may be a genius but did not convey that feeling to the audience.

  I too heard that the heroine is a disappointment. I am told Karthik, Avinash & Ranjith, Kovai Sarala and Nasser have done a good job.

  A good album from Mahesh. I did like Vaanam Vasapadume and the Harini Song (Megame).
  
  BTW, did Mahesh pass away recently (if I am not mistaken) due to cancer?
