Gavanikkap Padadha Paadalgal

Hi all:

Many times we miss to notice certain songs which are too good, just because either the film goes for a flop or some other popular song in the film overshadows this one. Hearing such a song carefully will tell how superbly it is crafted. I will start with a couple of such songs :

1) Kanna Varuvaya (Manadhil Urudhi Vendum). The beginning humming itself is mesmerising. And the interludes are simply superb.
2) Chinna thayaval thandha rasave (Dhalapathi). Soga Rasam pizhiyum paadal. The tune of this song comes often in the BGM. The beginning, the interludes are too great! Its been a very long time I heard this song.
3) Keeravani Iravile Kanavile Paada Vaa Nee (Paadum Paravaigal). A beautiful one by SPB.

  anyone heard "maragatha mEgam sindhum mazhai varum nEram ithu" (mEgaththukkum thaagamundu) by Vani Jayaram? terrific tune.
  
  were "yaarathu sollaamal nenjaLLippOvathu" and "ennuLLil engO Engum geetham" hit songs of their time, or can they be classified as gavanikkappadaatha paadals? guys who were in college circa 82, pls throw light.

  Both `Yaarathu' and `Ennulle' were moderate hits of the time i.e. got played often in radio under `neengal kettavai' program. Definitely not massive hits - like being played everywhere...like `Uchchi vahindheduthu'

  From Ratchagan, there is agood melodious song
  "kanava illai kaatra..."
  actually other songs like 'soniya soniya.....','chandiranai thotadhu...'were played so often that this song went unnoticed. Its a great song.
  
  When one falls in love everything becomes so light he feels like floating and the lyrics are too good.

  Mano, thanks. Another forgotten song, "MaaNikka maamaNi maalayil" from 'Thennangeetru' , composed by GKV, sung by SPB & VJ. Superb number.
  'Chinna KaNNa...' from Magudam (a 90's movie), composed by IR, sung by SPB and SJ, a super lullaby.Another 90's song from IR, 'Unnai thottu..' (some Karthik starrer) sung by SPB and Swarnalatha. 'O Madhubala' from 'Madhumathi' (another 90's song) , composed by Deva, sung by SPB.

  Hi Maithu,
  "kanava illai katra" was sung by Srinivas, a new singer. He is really singing well.
  
  His other songs are :

  There was a good mellodious song which came in early 90's by IR.
  The movie is 'Enderndum Anbudan' and the cast has
  Murali in it. The lyrics is also very good. I don't remember the Pallavi, but the saranam goes
  something like " Pallyil sila kAlam kalithen,
  kathali sila kAlam.." He basically thinks about the time he spent in the past..

  Angey maramonnu vachaaley vithikennu...(SPB) (MD: SG)(Thanimaram) (Lyrics: Pulamai Pithan). A pathos song, but good lyrics. Excellent voice modulation by SPB.

  Anyone heard this song -'Chithirappoo Selai'- sung by SPB- an excellent different performance-music by MBSrinivas-lyrics by Jayakanthan(yes!)-some brilliant pieces like'padikkattil eri varum
  paadathezhil paarpadharku padikkattin idayile oar
  palagaiyaay maarenaa?'-i think the name of the movie was' pudhu cheruppu kadikkum'-don't know if it was ever released- listeners of 'ilangai olibarappu kootuthaabanam, thamizh sevai irandu during late 70s early 80s could remember this song- I promise you, it is worth looking for!!
