Friends, I was listening some of the spontaneous numbers of Illaiyaraja from Kamal and Rajini films. Guess what. Who said, Illaiyaraja did not give the world's best percussion phrases. (Phil Collins may fall at Raja's feat if he heard the bits) What about the dance numbers? You note the pattern and they are just the idiom that is required of such rhythms. Let us list them out. I feel this is one of the latent and subtle skills of IR that have escape the Indian ears of yesterday.

Shankar: The drummer for IR now is Purushottam. In fact, as far as I know, Purushottam has been with IR since Annakili. Maybe Sivamani did some special pieces.

Hi
R Purushothaman, popularly known as Puru, is the man incharge of complete Rhythm section for IR from his Annakili days. Of course, Sivamani is used occasionaly, like he was also used along with Puru in HTNI. Basically Siva is a freelancer.

I hope RAJA can Concentrate on Melodies ,than trying hard into Dance Songs..
He every time ends doing a Ballet than the Foot Tappers..
Individuals should concentrate on what they are good at than trying to dominate the Market..
