yeah! i can identify the feel and differentiate these two songs........if u have seen KM., thaalata varuvalo song is basically composed for a romantic youth who jus long for his dream girl whom he had jus seen her. so it was may be called crying of that youth.
where as, in kaasi yen mana vaanil........is a song sung by a man who has a gr8 intuition of nature and world.....
i may not be that good in putting words to explain u..........but raaja s'dve been in contasting mind while composing these two songs........

you are talking about situations. i am talking about the complexity of the song. this is first time i can see hariharan singing like this for a song. Yes of course both are good.

yes i do accept that its raaja who made hariharan to sing like this. till he sang for raaja, he is been singing carnatic, hindustani, and gazal type of songs or typical rehman songs..........but raaja music has the uniqueness of that folk touch.......that c'dve attracted you
indded its a good song!

Funny I rated this song lower than all the other five songs i kAsi:-) Musically, `nAn kANUm ulagam' is marvellous with the thuLLal while `mAnu thOlu koNdu' is great for its nativity...On Hariharan's singing, I'd rate `AthOrathilE' the best...

Kupps, don't you feel HH kills Thamizh the most in `puNNiyam thEdi'? Can't he pronounce even `A' correctly? He sings kAsi as kasi:-(

Frankly, i am moved by the emotional content of this song, both music and lyrics(it seems) and have not given much important to the diction, so far. i would listen the song from that angle also in future. but to me, after a long gap, all songs of a film were very good (music+lyrics) and i have not paid much attention to the diction/pronunciation etc of the singers. to me these songs appealed instantaneously because i first listened to all these songs only in the film and have never heard before(even though had chance to listen to the samples in Raajagahm). These songs(music+lyrics) were jelled with the movie in such a way that every one(most of the audience) in that show(mini udhayam theatre, one night show, within a month of release, in madras) was moved by the songs and i saw instantaneous applause coming after each song. To me from that time onwards whenever i listen to Kasi's songs the film and situation comes to my mind and that is why as i said i turn emotional and haven't paid much attention to the diction part. Even after so much of story about emotion et al i have not bought the cassette yet :-)
i know that many will trash me as i'm also part of the brigade(may/may not be vocieforous) that is very much concerned about the diction of singers in thamizh. but still this film has shown my weakness :-) what to do pala naaL thirudan oru naaL agappaduvaan

kasi is dubbed from malayalam film vasanthiyum lakshmiyum pinne njanum.
music is by mohan sithara.
compare songs of both these films song by song.
kasi is light years behind the malayalam album.
take for example the 'en man vaanil' song. it's mal equivalent is 'aalila kanna' sung by Yesudas. the pain and emotion in that song is totally missing in Ilayarajs's song.
stop living in a Well and pass comments like a 'koopamandookam'.
this is my request to all of you.

Pras: No idea whether VLPN songs are available online or not.Check some audio shop in your locality which sell malayalam audio.
By the way,Mohan Sithara is no maestro. He is just a humble simple music director in malayalam.
