hey,
I think u guys are underestimating Shankar's ability. I believe that he has a very good understanding of almost all types of music...which is reflected in the kind of music he produced for his album Breathless...and Kamal hassan is a scene stealer and I can't think of how Raveena is going to stand up to him in the acting depatment...well I certainly thought rani mukherjee was smashing in Hey Ram...I dont know why many people claim to have not understood the movie...The movie was an analysis of the man who gave freedom to India. The movie, atleast people like me appealed a lot...a lot of hype has been raised over the kissing scenes in Kamals movies...
I find these scenes less revolting than a heroine
drenched from head to toe and still managing to strike a vulgar pose...Kissing infact is a healthy
way of expressing ones love..it's certainly better than titillating with steamy dance sequences which last atleast five minutes.

R. Sai Prasad :
Good to see some one who have understood the film Hey Ram. I taught that I am the only one who have claimed to have understood the movie.
It was a marvellous movie.
Thought, I have some reservations on that movie I still think that it should be one of the top 10 movies ever produced in India.

Here's an introduction to Shankar:
----------------------------------
Shankar Mahadevan is a PAlakkAd/Coimbatore Tamilian, brought up in Mumbai. He is a software engineer by profession but gave it up for his love for music.
He used to sing Jingles, working with many jingle composers like Louis Banks, with whom he formed a group called 'Silk', where Taufiq and Fazal Qureshi (Zakhir Hussain's brothers) and Shivamani are members. They give Indian Jazz and fusion music performances. He is also into Western music and is quite versatile. Consider these facts:
He is the lead vocalist of 'Mynta'- a Swedish band that blends Indian vocals with African, Arabic, Latino sounds and Swedish folk music- and is a regular performer in some of the International Jazz music forums.
He has released an album called 'Upanishad Amrut', reciting Shlokas from the Upanishads set to music by Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma.
He practised Carnatic music for many years and learnt Marathi Bhaav Geet, Abhang, Hindustani Semi-classical music and Ghazals, while in Bombay. He can play the veena and Harmonium very well. He started performing in concerts as a teenager.
His Hindi/Urdu diction is good. His Tamil is not bad either. He is very good in improvisations and I have been to many of his concerts (Silk), where he and Shivamani enthralled the audience with their spontaneous performances.
I have worked with him while in Bombay before he became a playback singer for the soundtrack of a CD-ROM project, 'Karishma', in 1994. A very pleasant and down-to-earth guy to work with, he and Louis Banks made a wonderful team and would give us options at lighting speed.
Many of the jingles that he sang for, won awards, like the famous 'KyA swAd hai Zindagi mein' ad for Cadbury's.
He has now teamed up with two of his friends in the advertising field, Ehsaan and Loy Mendonca (remember the signature tunes for NDTV's World This Week (DoorDarshan) and Star News (Star TV)?) and the trio has composed for a couple of successful films like ‘Mission Kashmir’.
He composed his own debut album, 'Breathless' which became a rage and gave him the recognition that was long overdue.
Here's hoping that the trio gives an already 'happening' TFM, a new sound, with their debut in 'ALavandAn'. Hopefully they use sensible lyrics and singers with good Tamil diction.

hello,
There are a few things as exiting as waiting for the release of a Kamalhassan movie.. There might be people with apprehensions and accolades..but I feel the man wins everytime he makes people respond..for instance lets take Mahanadhi.. for me it was the most complete tamil film..it had everything in it familydrama,violence,thrills,action.....u name it and it was there..but people raised objections to the story ...it's a fact that Kamal makes people cry their hearts out when they see a movie...There's something with him that is lacking in a few others involvement with his charachter..

Dear Unmail Vilambi,
the above comments were certainly pertaining to kamal hassans ability .....let me put it this way if u want he likes to include quality music in his movies as well..and I think his understanding of music was well depicted in Hey Ram.

Miruham pathi Kadavul pathi kalandhu saidha kalavai naan.. veliae miruham ule kadavul,
vilanga mudia kavithai naan.....
wasnt this a wonderful composition... It only shows the depth of vairamuthus knowledge about evolution and the limbic system. The limbic system or the animal brain is part of all men, so all of us infact are miruham pathi kadavul pathi.....
Please think about this and let the forum flow with ur thoughts....
