Who is better off in Devotional Songs?.

  Is Harivarasanam really in English?, did not know that, I agree with you abt great mistake of comparing these two, cos we can keep on arguing,it will never end, but statisticaly & popularity wise SPB is lot taller than KJY, no doubt, I am not under any circumstances, underestimating KJY's capabilities,he is my second fav after SPB.
  
  SPB is born sing, his voice is gift from god,I mean he can sing any type of songs, but KJY is limited, SPB has great depth voice, but KJY has not. SPB is the only singer present in India(at the moment), who can match the great latha at high pitches, she her self has said that.
  
  Can you imagine IFM, without SPB????

  SPB is my favorite singer, but as far as devotional is concerned I think KJY may be better. I heard a song that goes "oorellaam un paatu thaan.." Probably a film song (IR/KJY?) The song really struck a chord - what a great devotional piece, made me feel so much at peace with the world. Can someone give me more info on the song - movie/lyricist etc. Did the film do well?

  KJ for devotional. SPB for everything else.
  
  KJ is an ordinary singer with a golden voice.
  SPB is an extradordinary singer with a good voice.
  
  Good singer is not to be just the voice. If u have heard Madurai Mani Iyer, u would know what I mean.

  Most of you discuss about who's great in their own way .Actually everyone has got their own talent which may not be present within others ...So tell the fact is that Yesudas and SPB are equally talented in two different ways ...The same applies to other sings too ..I totally disagree with People who write that Yesudas/SPB is not a good singer because if U hear SPB singing in Malayalam, U'll forget malayalam because he's not able to express the words in malayalam ...The same applies to Yesudas who sings in other languages ... Many of the north Indians doesn't like Hindi songs Sung by Yesudas or SPB .They tell that Kishore/Rafi/ Lata is the best in the world ....Why is that SPB/Yesudas not singing right now in Hindi?....
  So each person has got a unique experience and talent in some areas and we cannot simply judge people by just listening to some songs ...
  We shud thank god for making us listen to songs from these great singers.

  most of u have questioned KJY'S range as as singer...well KJY can sing any song with ease......I THINK THE NORTH-INDIAN COMPOSERS HAVE DONE MORE JUSTICE TO HIS TALENT....THE TAMIL MUSIC COMPOSERS HAVE NOT REALLY EXTRACTED THE BEST OUT OF KJY,,, THEY HAVE USED HIM ONLY FOR DEVOTIONAL AND SAD SONGS MOSTLY..EVEN ILAYARAJA ,DIDN'T USE HIS SOUND WELL...I FEEL THERE WERE A LOT OF SONG'S SUNG BY SPB;WHERE KJY COULD HAVE HAVE DONE BETTER....
  
  BEING A CARNATIC VOCALIST;HE NORMALLY RESTRICTS HIMSELF TO THE "CARNATIC LINE"....GROWLING,SHOUTING AND HOWLING COULD SPOIL HIS VOICE....remember he goes for carnatic concerts every now and then.....SPB IS A "FILM SINGER ALONE" AND THIS IS THE REASON WHY HE GETS MORE FREEDOM AS A SINGER!!.......ANY DOUBTS?????.....

  ha ha ha , in fact there were a LOT OF songs by KJY, which would have sounded better if SPB had sung it.
  
  KJY is an excellent Carnatic agreed, he is above the SPB in CARNATIC, which he is trained @ for 30 years, where else SPB is not trained in anything about from BSC in Civil Engineering, which has nothing 2 do with music, YET, he is the DON in playback singer.

  Veeramani is the best singer for devotinal. He has sung lot of songs on lord ayyapa. His amman songs are considered the best even love. He can sing both melodies and fast numbers too. I love yesudas too. He is always best for his melodies. His harivarasanam is the best song in the world.

  Haven't u said this atleast 100 trillion times before?? And this is nowhere related to the topic. The topic is the contribution of SPB and KJY to devotional music. Instead of discussing their individual contributions, you are again only comparing the two. For the 100 trillionth time??
  
  Please atleast state some objective reasons (on some other thread - maybe "SPB is greatest singer ever in the Universe" thread )before making such a sweeping statement over and over and over again for MONTHS on end!! and that too on atleast 1000 threads?
  
  And mind you - dont repeat that sick funda of heavy bass and manly voice and expressions and blah blah blah. Those are all extremely subjective things. Millions find these in many male singers other than SPB too.

  After reading the resposes of some people out here, I feel that most of them have deviated totally from the topic...the question was 'who is better in devotional songs' among the two?
  My vote goes to KJ Yesudas. When you hear a devotional song, it must remind you of God and only God. I guess, Yesudas scores over SPB in that aspect. When it comes to film songs, SPB is better.
