In an effort to make dhool a li'l more comprehensive, we are adding a section "chords" for some songs. This table is presently hidden since we have chords only for a few songs. DFers can mail their own set of chords for the songs they have played / written in the format suggested in the Chords conventions page. Take a look at the way the page is arranged and send your chords to andholanam@hotmail.com. Try to make it as complete and accurate as possible including the interludes. This will help others who are searching for chords to use them. Appropriate credits shall be given to those who send the files.
(1) Paatu paadava
(2) Janani Janani
(3) Kuzaloodhum kaNNanukku
(4) nila adhu
(5) ponnondru kaNden
(6) vaseegara
and other chord files are available here - http://dhool.com/chords/articles.htm
some conventions:

BTW, all these files were created by me and pardon the errors if any.

Congratulations Mr.Srikanth and others, I am delightfully impressed with almost everything here - the wealth of knowledge, but more importantly, the simplicity, clarity and accuracy of expression and language. Truly a class apart.
I have just started taking the keyboard seriously, and have read through your informative section on chords (something - in this Quality - which I don't think is available anywhere else on WWW or in book form outside India).
I have a question w.r.t the Conventions section.
How does the following example apply to keyboard?
"Cm/G - Rhythm guitar plays Cm chord and bass guitar plays G"
Is this not possible with keyboard and we just have to go with one of Cm or G? If so, which one?
(I have a Casio 61 key keyboard, if that matters)
Thank you and Best wishes,
Hari.

Hari, thanks, usually left hand is used to hit single bass note while right plays the chord.

Actually this was while the right hand is playing the melody. For instance, the first set of chords for the opening lines in "Poo Vasam" score from Anbe Sivam is given as
| D | A /D | D | % |
What should the left hand play in the second bar, A or D? Or does this mean that the chord changes from A to D within the bar?
Thanks in advance,
Hari.

Hari,
Basically it is about timing, here it is half steps .
Left hand playing the bass works for minor support only, On a live stage, it is better to leave it to the bass guitarist to get the proper feel or you may want want to concentrate on bass parts alone and leave the chords to the rythm guitarist.
Playing single note bass parts works only to support that too if there is no one to play the bass
In song you mentioned the bass parts are solid parts to play in both hands it might sound complex for an experienced kb players.
I would concentrate on one part only. Lead or bass or chords,
most of the time we can play lead and move the chords in left hand, it is quite easy when compared to bass parts.
If you want to learn bass parts using keyboards, try hearing the songs like
"pongatru per solla"
"ninukori varnam"
few I remember now for amazing finger twisting keyboard bass parts.
Have fun.

You are almost right, just a few minor differences
Arugil nee is
| Dm(9) | % | Bb(9) | % |
| EbM7 | % | C | C# dim | A4(7) |
Dm9 and Bb9 are closed 9ths (chords with their second note added and without a 7th note that usually accompany the 9ths)
