As time goes on, some playback singers become the voice of major actors. e.g. TMS for Sivaji, MGR and Jaishankar, PBS for Gemini, SPB for Kamal and Rajini ( even though Kamal has sung songs himself ) etc. Before some feminist protests, let me add that PS became he voice of Savithri, Padmini, Devika - practically any heroine of the sixties, SJ became the voice of Sridevi, Ambika, Radha... etc.
I am trying to see whether there is a similar identification for comedians. Since there is only one comedienne of note, viz. Manorama and she is the voice of herself, we can safely ignore this area - unless some old timer can identify singers for TB Muthulakshmi etc.
As far as I know the foll. were/are the comedy kings.

RV, Vadivelu sings for himself and he has sung a couple of songs under IR and one under Anand( of "Sakthi" movie fame ) and I have heard Vadivelu singing a couple of other songs under other MDs( don't know the details! ). He sings well( that is different from saying he has a good voice!!! )

Arimugam:
That song is "Ethana Irunthaa Ettoorum Enpaattai Keitkkum; Pathana Iruntha Pathoorum Enpaattai Paadum" is from Rajkiran's movie, either "Aranmanaikkili" or the later movie( some "Raasa" ) and music by IR.
"Maarugo, Maarugo, Maarugaiyee" from "Sathi Leelaavathy" was by Kamal & Chitra.
Sarakku Sarakku song starts like the following:
Kaayamey Ithu Poiyada, Verum Kaatradaitha Paiyada;
Maayanaaraam Kuyavan Seitha Mannuppaandam Neeyada;
...
Sarakku Sarakku, Sarkku irunthaa Avuthuvidu, Illai
Salam Poattu Oadividu
is by ALR( for ??? ) and TMS( for M.R.Radha )
I don't remember the name of the movie.

My conclusion is:
Even though certain singers did consistently sing for comedians, no singer was identified with a comedian or vice versa. Contrast this with say, Johnny Walker being identied with Rafi. The only possible exceptions are NSK and Chandrababu. The reasons for these exceptions are obvious.
I see two reasons for this. 1. As the TFM hit 50s, songs for comedians became rarer and rarer. Obviously no identification can develop. and 2. Even during the time, when comedians had a couple of songs in a movie, e.g. Thangavelus prime, the songs themselves were deliberately in a "lowbrow" style i.e. dappangutthu was the preferred mode for these songs and the lyrics were of the type "Pulli Vaikkuran Poduyan Sokkuran" rather than "Mullai Malar Mele" i.e. the lyrics were written in colloquial tamizh. Probably less attention was devoted to these songs too. Invariably these songs were not as popular as the ones picturised on the hero/heroine. In Chandrababus case, since he was a singer of note, probably more care was taken on his songs. Similarly for NSK. After the Thangavelu/SC Krishnan combination, only Nagesh among the comedians had lot of songs picturised on him. And he was typically the second hero or the comic hero rather than the comedian. See Poova Thalaiya for example.
Still lot of consistency can be observed on who sings for which comedian.
NSK NSK
Thangavelu SC Krishnan
Chandrababu Chandrababu
Nagesh AL Ragavan/Seerkazhi
Cho: Not many songs for him. TMS sang "Alangaram Edhukkadi" in Mr. Sampath.
Thengai: TMS
Suruli: SPB
YG Mahendran: ???
Goundamani: ???
Janakaraj: IR, Malasia Vasu
Vadivelu: ARR, Shahul Hameed and Vadivelu himself.
Apart from these,
AL Ragavan and TMS sang "Sarakku Irundhal Edutthu Vidu" in Kumudham for Ramarao and MR Radha respectively.
TMS sang "Varavu Ettana" in Bama Vijayam for Balaiah.
Among the comediennes, Manorama is non-pareil. Chitra sang "Marugo Marugo" for Kovai Sarala in Sathi Leelavathi.
I am going to start another topic: Songs picturised on comedians. That should be the part 2 of this.

I should also add that Chandrababu sang "Ullasamagave Ulagatthai Aalave" for S. Balachander in Penn in 1954.
Penn also has a Kadha Kalatchebam by Sarangapani which was hilarious.
Cho did a Kadha Kalatchebam in "Anna Poorani" which had near cult status in the year of its release.

I had the opportunity to read through this topic today.
Interesting topic that has survived since 1997!
I am a fan of Chandrababu and have heard most of his songs.
There are two beautiful pieces he sang for other stars- one that got discussed in your forum was "Kalyanam.." by Chandrababu for S.Balachandar in 'Penn'.
Another buried gem is "Jolly Life, Jolly Life, Thaali kattina Jolly Life" by Chandrababu for Sivaji Ganesan's dance in "Kalyanam Panniyum Brahmachari", where Sivaji's role as the Hero-comedian and T.R.Ramachandrana s as side kick was superb.
In all the learned discussions above, I was hoping to see the mention of Sivaji as a consummate comedian and dancer, in addition to his terrific portrayal of character roles. I would like to add his name to the list of other illustrious comedians.
