vaitherruchal vaitherruchal....We all know there's nothing to talk abt ARR's music or him anymore. We know what you are going thru. We all know nobody listens to his old songs or even his not so old songs anymore. His new songs come and go. No body saw the chinese movie. Bombay Dreams became shakalaka baby. AND NO MATTER WHAT NONE EVER CAME NEAR OR WILL EVER COME NEAR OUR OWN SAKALAKALA VALLAVAN!

"We all know nobody listens to his old songs or even his not so old songs anymore"
.....sorry dear i dont know that...in the same way thousands of ppl dont know that.Did u survey the whole South India to check that nobody listens to his old songs. Just because u and some of ur IR camp members dont listen to ARR's old/new songs, is it reasonable to take u and ur camp members as representatives of the whole population in South India?

I think commercially AR Rehman is the best ....Even KR agrees to that ..Nobody can replace him ....But as far as producing long lasting music is considered ,i would say ,nobody in teh currents et of msuic directors ..

Thats bcos of FM channels and satellite channels, when a song is a hit they play it over and again and after sometime they make it sound like humdrum!
This wasn't the case during Raja's times.

hi all,
thanks for your responses. i was/am not trying to start a debate between fans of ARR & others,
or gauge the commercial success/popularity of
ARR.
just trying to analyze if at this point in time,
he is potentially the most heard composer in
the world, due to his prior & current projects.
regards

Saregamaremix,
A simple theory, this is not to offend ne body,
Do you believe that there are lot of Tamilians, Andhra-ites all over the world?
if so, do you believe that most of them were (please make not MOST not ALL) migrated outside of India during 80's and 90's.. if you see that, there were a lot of people who listened to IR music and even now they do apart from ARR.. if that constitutes a bigger population, i would say MOST HEARD COMPOSER is IR. Add Malayalees to the list then it would be IR.
But if we consider the WOHE, and assuming that each and every chinese saw the movie and listening to the song, it beats IR by leaps and bounds, Is it true? but trust me repeated hearing is the most important thing
so by numbers currently.. probably with Youth all over India is listening to ARR music is repeatedly hearing.. (coz the same music is sold to more than different languages no new stuff).. ARR is a winner.
Are we talking about only Tamil Music, then the calculations become totally different.
I dont know about the Potential of ARR, but he is the most commercially viable as an Indian MD.
Jacky,
I dont buy your logic. coz i still listen to ARR Thiruda^2, Gentleman/Puthiamugam et all..

Mil,
I wasn't talking about people who loves good music, i was talking about ppl who always find a fault to mock rahman.
Some of my friends who like raja better than rahman say that his music doesn't have shelf life.
I was just ref to those guys.
Btw, i listen to pudiya mugam, TT, and some of songs in uzavan are simply awe!
