Why Raaja is being branded as Folk MD? Was Mohan, Balumahendra, Manirathnam movies are based on folk songs?

  My only humble question is --why ARR always? why don't you pull other MDs legs too.? Why don't we adress to the query of the thread alone? Why should we unnecessaryly say ARR - African MD and all?

  Kupps thanks for the clarification. Common Friend is still not convinced why I brought in ARR. Anyways, I will let them (incl. Trend) wallow in their anger over me :). Let me digress - Folk music is the basis for Carnatic music (this is also the PhD thesis of Pushpavanam kuppuswamy). This is the reason why Carnatic music comes naturally to IR. Even before coming to the movies IR has been doing (folk) music with minimal orchestration. Because of this background/situation he developed a fascination for WCM. Considering how diligent a person he is, he learnt WCM assidously. He organised an band/orchestra where people came to play (not for recording for movies) paying their own auto/taxi fare. So he had a vision of the music he wanted to do. He started doing this from the very first movie. Meanwhile, he developed a fascination for guitar and there were quite a number of guitar songs. Then he got deeply into Carnatic music and we got some good Carnatic based songs. Later, I think he even outgrew songs.. and needed a bigger canvass like BGM/Symphony etc..I could see a gradual growth/pattern in his career. Also, note in the whole process, he has been a very technical person, no surface skimming, he needs to understand the very basic of any art form, before he uses them. This is just my version of the impression of IR, I have. I am anxiously looking forward to his biography. He is one of those inspiring stories in any field..

  being an ARR acolyte who revels in every opportunity to scorn IR (and his fans) in your own cynical brand of sarcasm, isn't it funny that you demand better treatment of your idol from others?

  Sorry for not being clear in the abbreviations WCM and ICM. I meant Western Classical Music and Indian Classical music by these abbreviations.
  
  One thing i wish to try to answer your question Why always ARR why not other MDs??
  
  The reasons could be (all IMHO, i may be wrong):
  
  1)ARR is a great MD and IR needs a fair person (not in terms of personality) to be compared with. It will be very bad to compare IR with say, for instance, SAR or likes(i feel sorry about being very harsh about SAR. i don't know why and how i developed such a bad impression about SAR). IR-Fans need a great MD to "benchmark/compare IR". One way it is a compliment to ARR given by IR Fans.
  
  2) Plus, it is the advent of ARR that reduced the chances of IR and his(ARR's) sustenence makes IR fans to flame at him.
  
  Now one can feel that IR could be compared with Great MSV or his predecessors, but one thing to be noted is that even though they are greats they are not the reason for reduction IR's chance, they either directly or indirectly helped in IR's growth.
  
  So being a ARR fan please don't get vexed, accept it and try to argue/contend it. One should definitely accept and feel bad about the way this flames are throw and many a times their equally bad reciprocations ( i feel very bad about such blatent fights). IRFans and ARRFans should contend like this but should not fight like this.
  
  ok...enough of this boring digression and my request to all of you (IR fans and ARR fans) that if anything i made wrong please out with it so that i can change and if anywhere i was harsh please pardon me that was not intentional.
  
  common friend you know how and why i write all these things??? because i'm also a fan of IR, so whatever i had in my mind long back(some even now) about ARR i extrapolated it to all IRFans.

  I think you only remember all the lines that are a little bit against IR. Take some time and try to read all my postings in this forum. I am sure you will find that I have handled both equally.
  
  I have never hidden the fact that I like ARR much. But I also, love IR songs. The digree of love might differ. I have also mentioned the reason why?
