Srikanth :
I have to disagree wiht you. Its thier JOB so,
I have to all these things. Even If I hear all these bits and pieces then its no abouth hearing it. They have more database then what even tfpage has. So, don't jump to coclusion and
give the benefit od doubt to MD's.
And regarding the BEAT LOOPS, I may agree in case of bits in Kaadhal Desam or Super Police. But no with Muqala.. Muqabula.., Thenmeruku paruvakatru..., etc.. There is ample evidence that from the music that the Pattern of music is same and to conclude that it was LIFTED. Further more We hear ARR saying "I never listened to Dr. Alban, It may be coincedence...". IS he is trying to make fool out of everybody. I don't deny the fact that it was nice to HEAR. Let him agree. Its not absolute crime in TFM. so whatz the problem?

Before anybody loses their cool here :-)...I think NaNbaN has a valid point as far as this thread is concerned. The topic clearly states "Admitting to Inspiration and 'Copies' in TFM". However, Geetha has not been very explicit in the description. I am assuming that the Topic heading is what the topic is all about. I don't think NaNbaN is criticizing anybody's music. He just appears to be asking why the respective MDs, be it IR or ARR, have not admitted to deriving inspiration from external sources for the above mentioned songs. Is my assumption right, Mr.NaNbaN ?

Hi
Naban & Balaji : AR should agree...starting again. I have already put around 1000k on why should ARR agree. Balaji you know it well, again using words like IR bashing etc.
Balaji always rule me out as a AR fanatic.
Dr Alban sample I will give you the sample name, I have to search my old drive and DATS. I have this loop with me here.
Frankly, I have not listend to Dr.Alban in India., until it became a issue. We hear few sound tracks and scream at all the mds.
Today I heard Maria carie's new song while driving back home on radio. Sounded just like Partha nabagam illaiyo...Do you say maria carie heard MSV/TKR and flicked the tune.
As explained earlier , musicians think alike when they use the same sound modules, drum patterns.
As we have more facilities now to hear more music around the world, we are able to compare them and calim our mds copy.
I dont agree to this. (If you want to fight again
ARR vs IR. I am NOT ready for the game.
Ridiculeous....
This topic is about inspiration.
Let us talk about that than IR OR ARR WAR...

By creating this thread, I only wanted to compile a list of copied/inspired tunes - Of all MD's and any Technical detail about the songs too. The aim was to try and get hold of the Inspiration, e.g., I'm going to try and buy the Dr Alban and Kenny G stuff, as it's not something I've been listening to. I'm trying to ascertain WHO our MD's are inspired by!
Please please don't turn this into an IR/ARR war...there's enough of that in the forum already. So far, the response is great, the partial list, for example was really useful. Please let's continue adding to it. Some of it has definitely come as a surprise to me.
Also, regarding beats, is it fair to call them copies? In the Carnatic Talam system, there are many Talas, but we don't say that all "Adhi" talam compositions are copied from each other, do we? So, won't most of this be coincidence? I can't say that I'm not an ARR fanatic, although I admire a lot of his work. Making us aware of his copies, and comparing them to the types of copies other MD's make is the aim of this thread....
Vidhyasaagar did a great job in Uyiodu Uyiraaga, but it was INSPIRED by ARR's work(the Chakravaaham piece, the Enna Payan piece)....the ARR Saayal was on it, similarly, his Bhangra Inspired compositions, like 'Coiambatore Maapilaikku Pennu kidaichaal'.
Please keep adding to this thread....Thanks.

Since the IR/ARR topic has come up.Let me make things clear, I am an hardcore IR FAN. But not a
ARR basher. I admire ARR too. He succeeded in some areas where IR failed(or Ignored), I agree with that. But I find it ridiculous to compare both of them. Will you dare to Compare Micheal Jackson and Mozart?. Answer is NEVER. But Why?. The answer is obvious. Same is the case for IR and ARR. They are Good in thier respective areas of music and different generation of music. Lets not take toll on each others just becsause they are in TFM. Lets hope the change is good for TFM and Everybody comes up with good tunes (Dream!).
Coming to of copying and inspiration, let them admit thier copying and inspiration. Atleast when the PRESS asks for it. As srikanth said ARR has to agree. The only time when saw ARR say about
"inspiration" is for song "Konjam nilavoo..." (Thiruda Thiruda). He himself said in DD, that the tune and BEAT where set in Micheal Jackson MODE and it was inspired by MJ.Nobody takes his credit out for saying this. He has to keep this attitude throughout his career(Hope).
The bottom Line is every work is inspired by some other work. Like the famous saying "Nothing is NEW in this world".
And thanks for giving chance to AIR my views in this forum.
Ridiculed,
NaNbaN

Nanban,
Good posting. I dont know why they pounced on you
when you had listed both IR and ARRcopied/inspired songs. I guess most people interpret any posting as one by hardcore IR fan or IR basher. Please continue neutral postings. Any reference to IR or
ARR invariably leads to IR-ARR fights. I have
been following this forum for more than a year and a half on a daily basis and I enjoy it a lot. I havent contributed much though by posting.
Oflate, I feel all topics degenrate into IR-ARR fights. There are harcore IR fans and hardcore ARR fans. There are some neutral postings too. I feel bad that even neutral postings are interpreted to
the likes of each person and the responses lead to
fights. I am an IR fan but I listen to ARR too.
Whats wrong in listing all inspired songs when that is the intention of this thread? Just bcos I am an IR fan and interpret this posting as IR biased one please dont post. This is just a request to all netters to read a posting as it is
and not jump to conclusions. This is a discussion
forum and I have no right to control or restrict
any of you. I have been having a lot of fun following this forum. I just dont want to lose the
fun part. It is like DMK-ADMK fights more than
a healthy discussion forum. Please do give a thought about this

All those keyboard geniuses...help me out on this one!!
I tried playing the intro piece(the tremelo sound) of "kaadhalikkum penin kaigal"(kaadhalan) on the keyboard and then the introductory humming in "Maasi maasum" from Dharma Durai.
Strangely enough they sounded dangerously similar.
Anybody know better??
The guitar piece in the first bgm of "Kaasumaelay"(kadhala kadhala) sounds similar to the signature tune of "Jeopardy".
The bass guitar piece that goes along with the entire "Kuluvaalille"( Muthu)song is exactly the same as the intro piece in a song from the movie "Sister Act". Can somebody shed more light on the name of that song??
And try singing the "kokkarokoko" part from "Pacha kili"(Karuthamma) and then sing "Hilkore Hilkore" from "Poo pookum osai" (Minsaara kanavu).
Whadya think?

Kuluvaayile-Like a Virgin - Madonna - bassline....
I think Michael Jackson's Beat It also has a similar bassline....
I'm not sure, but I think the Ragam of Kadhalikkum Pennin and Maasi Maasam is the same. Uthayaravichandrika....

I dont think Rahman said he never heard
Dr.Alban. In fact in a Kumudam interview
in 97 he was asked, "People say your
Bombay song copied Dr.Alban's songs?"
He replied "In music field we call these loops.
Dr.Alban gave out a CD of drum loops and I
used one of them in the end of Humma. When
the song was released, around the same time
Dr.Alban also used it in his song. I decided not
to use loops".
Again, I am adding this piece of info to
avoid a politicalization of this thread. let us
talk more of musical pieces and strictly avoid
hatred.

Regarding Masi masam and kadalan song humming, I had thought it was Suddha Danyasi scale. Is URC a janya of the same?

rjay: Suddha Danyasi and Uthayaravichandrika are ONE and the SAME. I gave the older name of the Ragam. Both names are used in carnatic music.

It is intresting to find out so many sources
for Kuluvaayile. Recently I heard one song
in the local radio, the beat of this is exactly inspired ( dont say copy). The song is 'resuce me', I think the group is fleetwood mac.

Dear Friends
I read all your discussions about ARR/IR inspritions,copys.... I am ARR fan. But it doesn't mean that I hate IR. For south IR means Music-Music means IR. According to me There is one major disadvantage with ARR is that while we are listening to his new album then its irritating to hear is previous album and moreover that new album is taking a long time to reach the people. But in case of IR this is not in practice even now we can hear his 80s songs(esp. Mohan's film songs). ARR have to do something about this otherwise there is a chance for him to come down.
And about Similarities in music you all confusing yourself.IR in one of his Interview in DD he clearly said that "There is only 7 Swarams in music, Composing must be in such a way that it should not allow the people to think "oh this is old tune" That is music" what he said his absolutely correct. And regarding ARR Vs Dr.Alban. I think i may be the first one to hear Dr.Alban's One love album in Chennai, Cause i was asking for new english song the stereo Vision owner gave Dr.Alban's one love from the Unpaked Carton. From that day I love dr.alban's music. Arr in his interview he said about this "There is so many music softwares i was using the software which was composed by Dr.Alban" and he implemented that in Thenmerkku paruvakaattru-Karrutthamma. And his another interview he said that Thaiya Thaiya is a inspried by a Pujabi singer and Nusrat Fateh Alik Khan's Song. Even IR in his interview he said that Puthu Maapilaikku - Abboorva Sokkoatharragal is the tune copied from (MGRor Siviaji's song i am not too sure) Naan paarthatilaya aval oruthiyai thaan nalla algai enbayn. You sing this two songs then you will know the similarities. Please don't talk about either ARR or IR or MSV(He used to remake hindi songs-few only) Their 95% songs will be their own tune. There is few MDs in tamil esp. DEVA & SIRPI these two f---rs you know how they stealing the tunes.Deva's 1.Batcha background from Terminator 2
2.Salomiya-from hindi Non-film Junoon. 3.Meenama -
from hindi film.Sirpi Baadu's 1.Muthu thara yatha idam-from Bally sagoo's album,2.Yalay langadi yalay langadi lay,Adi yarathu yaarathu aangay en khathal devathaiya. all from arabic songs. They both compose their own tune you know. I think IR and ARR are more better than these kaiyaal aagatha baadus. Each and everyone have some faults its not nice to critize others tiny faults.
We should Salute IR for
1.Ilaya nila -Pynagal mudivathilayi
2Thendral vanthu theedum-Avatharam(SymphonyRaagam)
3.Manram vantha -Movna raagam
4.Senthoora poovay-16 vaiyathunilay
5.Aarum athu aalaam illai-Muthal vasantham..etc...
& ARR for
1.Mustafa Mustafa-Khadhal Desam
2.Khadal Rojavay-ROJA
3.Khadal Ennum-Kadalr Dinam
4.Uiyrey-Bombay
5.Maargali poovay-MAy maadhametc.......
I think these two are gift to tamil film industry.
Nanri. Vanakkam.
