  I always thought Chitra was awarded particularly for the song "Naanoru Sindhu" even though we know that the whole performance of the artiste in the movie is considered...but not always so. For eg.,
  
  "Chittuk Kuruvikkenna Kattuppadu"
  
  I think was the only solo by PS in 'Savale SamaaLi'.

  i think vairamuthu got the award for muthal mariyaadahi but the song is
  not -- poogatru ---
  it is raajavae unnai nambi or vetti veru vaasam

  I think it's vetti veru vaasam... there's nothing awesome in raasaave unna nambi...
  
  BTW, NagaS, shouldn't it be Swarnalatha for PoraaLE Ponnuthaaye and NOT Vairamuthu?

  Didn't Vairamuthu get this award for "Porale ponnuthayi" too ? I think both Swarnalatha and Vairamuthu got awards.

  PoRaaLee Ponnuththaayee got two awards - for VM and SW,
  
  In case of MuthalMariyaathai, I am sure it is for 'Poongaaththu Thirumpumaa' - long back there was a 'oliyum oLiyum' program in DD (Remember ? ;-) in which they compiled songs which got National Awards and this song came as the last ... I believe that is the BEST song as far as lyrics are concerned in MM !

  Poojaikaka Vazhum Poovai by Deepan Chakravarthy in Kathal Oviyam. SPB did a marvellous job in the entire soundtrack, but Deepan C. stole the award with just this one song.

  Sedhu, I agree that SPB did a good job, But I feel Deepan Deserved the award, He was just wonderful in that lone song !

  did DC get an award?I dont think so.The funny thing is he was the track singer for this song and he sang it so well, SPB magnanimously suggested IR keep that itself for the movie(like what happened to minmini after she sang chinna cinna aasai..)
