The idea of creating a web site for P. Susheela evolved in the threads
'P. Susheela solos' and 'P. Susheela fans". After 6 months of efforts
from many PS fans, the site is ready for launch as a gift from all of us
on P. Susheela's birthday on Nov 13. The URL is

Your input in the form of feedback and any material such as photos,
artilces, and such is appreciated.


A small function has been arranged in Chennai on that day. Here are teh
details

Date: 13-11-2003
Venue: G.R.T. Grand Days(in b/t teynampet - Pondybazar)
Time: 11.00 a.m

Guests : Mellisai Mannargal M.S. Viswanathan and T.K. Ramamoorthy,
some other celebrities(not finalized)

We invite you all (particularly people in Chennai,Bangalore,Kerala &
Andhra) to attend this and make this function a Great Success

  The spelling for 'sinhalese' is corrected. "New Updates" is a very good suggestion. We will soon have it.
  
  The year of movies: Our aim is to have all possible details about a song including the year when the movie was released. We are still collecting / correcting information. In the near future, we will be able to provide such info and a search page also will be provided to help visitors search by different criteria.

  Dear listener
  It is wit a profound sense of joy and anticipation that I present to you this recoding – the first one on the Upanishads. The enthusiastic listener – acceptance of my earlier productions on the Vedas and Bhagvad-Gita emboldens me to attempt the recordings of Upanishads.
  The word “Upanishad”, literally means, “sitting down as the feet of the teacher” . That is to say, the Upanishads embody the secret and sacred teachings which were imparted by the Guru to his disciples. These teachings, of course, were about the nature of ultimate reality.
  Twentieth century man looks outward to the conquest of outer space. But the seers and sages of the Upanishads looked inward to the conquest of the inner space. They believed that the soul of man was as infinite as the vast expanse of the limitless universe. They believed also that the indidual Self, or jivatma, partakes of the character of the Absolute Self, or paramatma. The goal and purpose of human is to let our individual selves dissolve into the ocean of Truth, Consciousness, and Bliss which the Absolute is, and thus experience the peace that passeth all understanding, which the mystics of all ages and all faiths affirm is vouchsafed to the free-seeker.
  These Upanishads are considered part of Sruti – that which was heard as the revealed word of God. We do not, however, posses any record of how these words of the Upanishads, pregnant with potency and laced with luminosity, were chanted and to what meter they were set for incantation by the sages themselves.
  Since, the Upanishad’s are known to produce powerful vibrations, induce a tranquil state of mind, and summon a beatific vision of the Absolute, I have engaged the mellifluous voice of srimathi P.Susheela to render them in song. The devotion with which she has done is certain to enable you to experience the ecstasy of having communion with the ineffable.
  In this day and age, when we crave for peace in the world, peace with nature, peace with all mankind, and peace with ourselves, I offer this as my humble salutation to the sages of Upanishads, who made them replete with the invocation.
  OM SHANTIH, SHANTIH, SHANTIH!. Let there be Peace, Peace, Peace.

  The Vocalist
  South India’s most celebrated singer of film and semi-classical music is being introduced to audiences abroad through this recording, srimathi.P.susheela, who has rendered these sacred songs of Upanishads, obtained her initial training in vijayawada from the well-known violinist, Dr.Dwaram venakatasamy Naidu. Subsequently, in madras, she received further training from the renowned Musiri subramaniya iyer.
  Commencing her singeing carrier in south Indian films in 1951, while she was still in her teens, srimathi susheela has sung more than 20,000 songs. She is the leading singer of south India, and has sung in several Indian languages. The foundation of rigor and discipline having been laid by her teachers, she has developed her talent with the aid of her own creative imagination and personal intuition. It is these qualities which were decisive in her being chosen to render the Upanishads.
  Before she did the actual recording, srimathi Susheela deligently studied the Upanishads with an assistance of an eminent Sanskrit scholar. The recipient year after year, of many coveted awards, too numerous to catalogue, she is married to Dr.Mohan Rao, and has a son of twelve years old.

  Have you updated the song Pani Malar Aadum Azhagai .. rasikka manadhil sugamey, a wonderful and outstanding song by PS from a vijayabhaskar film into the website database? ( if I ask for the name of the film again - Saravanan will surely get worked up :-)). If ever you get this song please put it up in the website. I dont have it or would have sent it to you. Btw :-) Is there a way of selecting a list of songs (jukebox style) to listen to?

  I too do not have this song. I will try to get it from someone and put it on the site soon.
  
  Playing songs in a jukebox style is not in our current plans. We have a lot in our 'to do' list. Once we complete that we will come back to your suggestion.
