I watched ESK in a theater near new haven, CT this saturday. What a disappointment with respect to song picturisation. I was expecting some vivid camera narration of 'thirakkatha kattukkulle' . Alas!, while the choice of locations , costumes and settings have been elegantly haldled, the camera which should have portrayed depth in the lyrics has been grossly overlooked and there is absolutely no sychronization between camera depiction and lyrics including choreography. I was expecting some colorful birds flying from the meadows into the skies and some snails moving around the feet of the heroine. But the director and camera man had different ideas(!) in their mind and probably thought those were too much for the asking! The disharmonies were flagrant. The costumes and choreography were helpful only for the numbers 'jimbalaka' and 'nayagara'. No wonder, as these songs are just light duty items as for as the lyrics goes and hence the director and camera men were saved. Arvindasamy sucks with his gently paced dance sequences and raju sundaram works look kinda amateurish at few places. He has to learn and work with director and camera man in a collective manner and there should be a holistic approach in such high duty songs. I can also give the example of the song 'chakkaravagamO', in which though he has brought some consolation in portraying a traditional gargha raas for the beat , he gives little choreographic support for the lyrics especially in places like 'antha megam surantha palil en naniya marukkirai?'. Also ,there is an abrupt end to the second interlude of 'en swasak katre' and was completely disappointing. Arvindaswamy adds to the misery in this song with his gently paced rhythmic movements which is very odd and is a misfit. I could not stand a dance movement for neelambari. Does raju sundaram or the director know what ARR is presenting or VM is conveying in those songs? Overall, sounds like a five star hotel's grand finale feast of a convention serving the attendees with just usal pav and chai!

Did anyone add "thalattudhe Vaanam" from KadalMeengal?
Also, the picturisation of all the songs in Agni Nakshathiram is fabulous. Let me also add an old song. The song that depicts the picturisation of a song in the movie 'Server Sundaram" with Nagesh Dancing... I can't get it in my mind now.. Can anyone tell me the starting words of the song?
The best picturisation is in the movie Arunachalam. The song is "MAthadu MAthadu...". The best part is JAishanker's dancing. He dances with all the Abhinayas presented in the NAtyashastra.
(Just Kidding).

Did you say Agni Natchathiram ? I feel the picturisation for "Ninnukori" was terible. With all the colour lights flashing it appeared more like a local drama..:-))

Vimal,
I think the song from "Server Sundaram", you are referring to, starts like this "avaLukkenna azhagiya mugam avaLukkenna".

I think, the picturisation of songs acted by Revathi and Nadhiya was good in most films, their solo ones.Iyarkaiyai rasiththa padi avargal paduvathu.
