All times in EST +10:30 for IST.
Once Ilayaraja came out with a statement that if there is a male voice in the cine industry it is TMS only. But nowdays I feel pity of the sings we have ... All singing in nasal voice & false voice.
Unnikrishnan leads the race with 90% femine voice
Harish Ragavendra is almost near him.
Hariharan is ok.. but still he is some what near 30 - 40%
Hope this trend was set by PBS with his semi male voice which was called as the best voice of those times.
UnniMenon Jayachandran looks good.. but still a bad xerox copy of KJY.
who is the real male singer as of now?
I wonder I have no answer.

There is some percentage of faminism in every man's voice and manism in every woman's voice. This is a scientific fact. When young SPB came into TFM, people used to say that he sang like a girl (even TMS quoted that). But now he is the only manly singer in TFM. I think it really depends on the kind of song they sing. You need someone like TMS to sing songs like 'acham enbadhu madayamada' but to sing songs like 'ennavale adi ennavale', you need soft voice like unni krishnan's..... if you really need a singer like TMS, then you need our composers to make songs like the old one's... I mean, mandly songs for manly voice. In today's music only SPB (also Karthik and shanker mahadevan to some extent) can sing songs that need power and manly rendition. MDs dont compose powerful songs. IR tried hariharan for such songs in kasi and many felt that SPB could have done a better job that's bcos of this same reason. It's the song that decides the singer. Today's kind of songs completely eliminated the need for singers like malaysia vasudevan bcos MDs don't compose songs for his kind of voice...Let our MDs make manly songs then we will automatically see more manly voices

There is some point to be noted dear friends. The days are gone when singers voices are analysed before a song is given to them.During TMS times voices were evaluated and the ranges were known and suitable scales were fixed for the songs so that the voices sound their best but now (since ARR times) the knowledge about range fixation is absent and male singers are allowed to shout and scream at high pitches which makes them sound feminine.YSR,KR,HJ and others followed ARR trend.
Every voice has its own merits demerits ranges softness or hardness. It is upto the composers to fix the correct scale for them

This is stupid. Having a soft voice or a nasal voice does not mean one has a female voice. It's about time people accept variety, and that there are many male voices, each one has its own merit and suited to its particular songs.

Unnikrishnan,Hariharan,Harish Raghavendra etc etc sound feminine when they are given unreachably high pitched songs and asked to scream at the top of their voice. They have sung great songs in their suitable male voice.MD s should give them the corect pitch and scale

UK, HR, Kartik, HH and many singers mentioned by Mr.Vishwamitra have good voices.
Someone may feel that KJY, JC, UM has Feminine voice. Ezp.. UM voice is dead one.No feeling, No expression. What do u say for this.
ITs all left to our mind.. and heart which hear to songs sung by them..

How about Seergali and his son S.Sivachidambaram? I think Seergali had the best "Manly voice". Outside TFM, it is Maharajapuram Santhanam...

UNNIKRISHNAN: I don't agree UK's voice is all faminine. If you listen carefully you can discern shades of male voice in UK's singing. Otherwise how could he have become popular.
TMS: The best description of his voice is "metalic" (I think given by Vamanan). Extremely good, but dated in style. Without sufficient nostalgia to help along, can't enjoy his old songs.
KJY: Soft, resonant, purely male voice, especially at Bass.
SPB: Has a distinct trace of female voice, even at Bass, which in fact makes his singing all the more endearing.

I feel that this trend was accelerated by the songs from the movie MInnalae - Think of these songs:
a. Vaerenna Vaerenna Vaendum
b. Ooh mama Mama
c. Eh Azhagiya Theeyae

I am 1000% with you when you said Unni Krishnan leads the race...just make it 100% not 90%. His is the only voice that I cannot stand at any cost. I can even pardon S N Surendar but not UK.
