How come every MD is avoiding SPB now ?
Even IR's latest songs feature IR/AM/HH.
IR did this once when he introduced Mano. He stopped using SPB for a while but came back to him. Now for the last few years he is going with ArunMozhi, Whereas Deva and others were using SPB almost continuously.
Now there seems to be big slump in his singing Career.
Infact I read a Kisu Kisu recently when I was in India, which went like this:
" Prabala Isai Amaipalarin Isai Varisu, Barutha Paadagar paadiya Paadal Nandraga Illai endru
Thane Paadi Record Seithu vittar" ( Does this not imply SPB & KR(or YSR)?)

Gokul:
SPB has sung a song in "Veera Thaalaattu"( MD: IR ) and I have seen many songs of SPB in some of the new movies where the Music is by Deva, Shah, S.A.Rajkumar, Vidhyasaaghar, et.al
So, I am not sure if SPB is getting the boot. I feel that the current trend is to capitalize on the new hit singer "Hariharan" and so many songs which would have probably been sung by SPB are going to "Hariharan" - that's true.

For a long time, SPB's tamil songs are not dominating charts. It may be the reason for his low visibility. Also most of the MDS now want to
try with different voices as against good voices.
In terms of hit songs, I think both UK and HH can claim to be no 1 singers in TFM now.

Kadhal Rojavae (IR) may not the latest film(i'm not sure if this one is released yet), but SPB has been given a lion's share in that movie.

Ravy,
Yes kadhal Rojavae, SPB sang many songs, though the most popular song in this film was by
mano. BTW expect the recent 'alogoviam' song from roja malare, he did not have any other song
to dominate the charts recently.

What is the current scene? Has SBP stopped singing in Tamil Films? If so it is a loss.

Ilaiyaraaja is the only one who wil choose
singers, instruments according to situations
and actors, not certainly by going after the
latest. He too is using Hariharan a lot. But
look at the actors for whom he is using. As Ravi
said,Dharma has all songs sung by SPB which is
very appropriate for Vijaykanth. You see
Ilaiyaraaja will never use Udit Narayan for
Vijayakanth. If situation needs and the latest
voice suits to a actor, what's the problem in
utilizing it?

Is it not true "Pazhayana Kazhithalum puthiyana puguthalum" Kaalathin kattayangal?
So SPB had his time, now it is time for others, new voices, new experiments.

Here is a related question Why is SPB singing the title songs of almost all TV serials nowadays? This is true atleast for Sun-TV. My reaction when I noted this was Why cant he give a chance to others? Doesnt he sing enough in films? But then after seeing this topic I realise that he doesnt sing much in films nowadays!!

SPB underwent a throat operation last year and was advised not to sing for sometime and that was one of the reasons for his long absence. Probably his voice has thickened with age too. Having heard some of the recent tunes..I guess they do not deserve this man's phenomenol prowess. But he has been going off-key (while singing) in the last year or two on a few occassions.
Having heard all singers of all generations in most languages I could conclude by saying that nobody else has sustained this standard of singing for 32 years. He is now a legend and probably has passed a stage where his worth is going to be determined by the number of songs he sings.

The standout song in the new film "Harichandhra" is "Nadodi Paattu Paada" was given life by SPB. The cassette was the number one seller for two weeks and is still in the top 5 for sales. So don't go counting out the man with the most of everything: heart, soul, depth, passion, humor, and magnanimity. SPB has openly complimented all the new singers, even Mano(???). When Unni Krishnan got the award for "Ennavalae", one of the first bouquets he received was from SPB.
BTW, who is singing Telugu and Kannada film songs for males these days?

Did you Listen the song 'Nadodi Paatu..' I don't know what the speciality about that song. It is just a ordinary song. I would say the recent one (??) would be Unnai Paartha Pinpu than.. from Kathal Mannan. I think it's the time for the spb to give a chance for new comers, but the sad think is that most the new singers aren't great. I think spb.Charan need to do some work. UK,UM and HH are good.

Udhaya,
About who's singing most of the songs in Telugu, its much like Tamil,Hariharan(incredibly enough for Chiranjeevi too),Udit Narayan and a whole raft of new male singers whose names I cannot be bothered to remember,Mano of course.ARR's not directly there in Telugu films(except for his dubbed films) but his influence is strongly felt.Relatively new MD's like Sri,Mani Sharma(today's hot property) etc are emulating ARR's example with some success(though at least the latter is mediocre IMO).Others who've resisted the ARR-wave are Keeravani(Margathamani to Tamilians) whose brand of melodiousness will never quite go out(though it sounds passe to me) and Vandhemataram Srinivas (who has an interesting background in composing red-laced folk songs for leftist movies with and is now amazingly a successful mainstream MD(!).Koti, son of the great S.Rajeshwara Rao(composer of pathbreaking-fusion score for SS Vasan's Chandralekha, remember that one?) is also churning out a great no. of scores,I've yet to hear anything good from him recently.Another surprising story is Deva's success in some recent films.Talk about crossover appeal!Sirpy and SA Rajkumar have tried their composing hands in Telugu with so far inconsistent results. And there are some others, but this is boring Tamil folks I'm sure,so...

Mano, I liked the lazy-strolling pace of the song "Nadodi Pattu", and SPB is in royal form here with his trademark stanza endings...when he ends the line "ka a a a dhal" and the whistle interlude pitches in, man, a thousand pressure knots in my body just relieved themselves instantly.
"Unnai Paartha Pinbu" started well, but when the tune breaks of with "evalo evalo endru nedu naal irundhaen" along with the jarring music (sounding like someone hammering the keyboards)it was too much for me.

I heard Dharma songs is full of the great balu.
iru kangal podhadhu...etc.
"Meethadha veenai" from Poonthotam should be Balu instead of hari haran , Man I could not stand his voice.
Thanks

IMO, naddodi pattu is an ordinary song, given life by SPB. This song has some traces of 80s IR influence, and that may help to see why SPB excelled in that song.
I feel it is not SPB is not completely singing in films, it is simply he is getting songs, which rarely make into charts.
one can not help to feel that, when a album card reads singers SPB, Mano, some what the songs are not good. I can not blame them, but the fact is they are not getting current trendy songs, may be the reason

HI guys,
It is nice to know that SPB has got large no. of fans, but as the time changes so must everybody. Of course, he still sings a good no. of songs, but it is HH who is ascending the steps - it is now like watching how SPB was getting attention when TMS was going down. Of course, I am also a fan of SPB, but I cannot deny the fact that he is not ruling the roost any longer, is the fact. Have read once that when he was at the prime a few years back, he refused to sing with PS because she is not appealing to youngsters, and he preferred SJ and next was KCS. One has to remember that once upon a time, when he was a novice he had to sing with the same PS and their duets were a craze at 70s'. But in the later 80s, he refused. If anybody quotes Indian - kappaleri poyachu - remember that was ARR and he always gets what he wants. So, SPB is now in a similar position with young MDs .Also, he is trying to promote his son - SPB Charan. that may also be one reason why he is not concentrating on his career. pazhayana kazhidalum pudiyana pugudalum - remember that old proverb that is what happening to tamil music world. But still he is the most versatile singer, cannot be questioned by others.

udhaya,
Unnai paartha pinbu naan is a rock kind of song (at least , that's what is attempted). The MD has tried sthg with the electric guitar and has succeded to some extent.
I can't dream of any singer other than sirgazhi or kamal(remembering pOttu vaitha kaadhal thittam) can go that high (pitch) (imagine sirgazhi singing the song ;-))) )
Check out the way he falls down to low pitch after
....innum vendum vendum enrathE"
I don't think anybody else cud've done it better.
