Oooh What a wonderful piece, it is truely magic. Thanks for sharing it woth us Anand. I wonder if it's from one of the CD's of HTNI or NBH, as I know that there were some extra pieces in the CD's and I'm still trying to buy them.
See guys, where is this IR nowadays? Take a listen to to and please try to understand my frustration at his new work.

This is from HTNI ,
First part is set to Thilang and Natai then shifts to Moham and goes on ...
Great piece , did not come with first release of HTNI, later added for the CD version,
Tune is similar to Kavidhai kelungal in Ponagai mannan.

I had written about this piece in the thread 'GavinikkappadAdha pAdalgaL'. An absolute stunner of a piece, this was a later addition to HTNI. Not originally available on the cassette. Was added to the CD version. I think this is now available on current HTNI cassette version too.
This piece was originally in the movie thiruppumunai I think.
I feel the piece 'Modern Concerto' from rAja pArvai should also be included in HTNI. (may need to be recorded again)

Anand Mahadevan:
pg is right, this piece was added later to
'How to name it' and some new tapes have this
piece included. The entire clip comes in a
Ramarajan movie. I don't remember the movie name,
but it starts with 'pAttu ....'.
I vaguely remember the storyline. He is a
singer in a grAmmam and people are giving
recognition for his singing talent(?) after
sometime. He even comes to US for a concert (????????)
There is a good song in that movie where Ramu
sings in a train about 'thalAttu' with a
kottAnkuchchi instrumnet. Kubhsoo is
the heroine. Anybody knows the movie title?
This piece comes as a background piece somewhere
in that movie.

I just listened to the Real Audio file today. It is Don't compare from HTNI.
This is only about 40% of the piece. The full piece is available on CD.

Evem I have a 10 year old HTNI cassette, which does not have this one. Do you have any idea whether the new ECHO cassettes have the same? Or is it just available in the CD?

In the HTNI CD, the whole track spans about 8 min
and 6 seconds. I believe Purushothaman and
Sivamani did the percussion part, they have been
acknowledged in the back cover of the CD.
Geetha:
as I know that there were some extra pieces in
the CD's and I'm still trying to buy them.
I was really surprised to read you not having
this CD :-)) Isn't this a must one for all music
lovers?

I agree with MPR. This piece is one of the most significant pieces of HTNI and is available only in the CD version. Below I reproduce the CD sleeve notes for the "Don't Compare" piece in HTNI.
Quote :
"Dont Compare ---- Fire in the blood, love in the air---- There's excitement not only in Ilaiyaraaja's inspired melodies but also in the brilliant way in which he has orchestrated them. The drumming is spectacular, ans so is the fiddling --- but it is really unfair to single out these these two instruments for special mention when the entire ensemble performs at such a high level.
Changes of mood mark the different sections:dramatic use is made of rests and silence and although elements of Jazz Improvisation, Western classical influences and modern dance rhythms are blended together expertly, the inspiration is unquestionably Indian.
Dont Compare is an entrancing composition. And the title is apt --- it's beyond compare !! "

MPR: I only have both HTNI and NBW on cassette. At the time they came out, I was a child and did not possess a CD player....I've moved on now and even possess an MD player, but am unable to get digital versions of these two albums in the UK.....What can I do? :)
Yes, they are indeed albums for music lovers. My preference is HTNI, I'm more of a purist when it comes to this type of album, I guess.
I'm also looking for Mandolin Srinivas's IR Rare compositions, which I have on cassette, but can't for my life get it on CD.

Help!
There is Theme Song(A Chase music)in film Manipuru Mamiyaaru,it excellent piece with similiar orchestration Settings. Anybody knows of this piece in net?. This Film also has famous song "Ananda Then kaattru Thaalattu..." sung by Malaysia & S.P. Sailaja.

This piece IS Don't Compare. Do Anything is a folkish flute-based piece which was part of original HTNI. In fact Do Anything was used in Balu Mahendra's Veedu as part of BGM.

My apologies, if this post doesnt fit here! But I couldnt find a better thread as of now:
naNban: that chase music is frm the movie, jhony! It comes at the end of Jhony cassette too!
Regarding The Name Conflicts in the HOW TO NAME IT (HTNI) Cassettes/CD..
Yes! When the first lot of HTNI cassettes were released, the track numbers and the titles specified in the cover were in correct order! But when they came up with new lot HTNI cassettes, [1992?] [change in HTNI font in the cover, instead of old echo labels on the cassette, it was pink color cassette bearing See inlay cover], they included this new piece namely, DO NOT COMPARE also, but the order in which the tracks appear in the cassette/CD was totally different frm what it used to be in the earlier version!
After that it was never corrected! From the CD ORI CD 115, produced by Oriental Records Inc, NY, I could recoginize the following, the actual tracks:
1. How to name it?
2. Dont Compare [newly added]
3. ??? [Chamber Welcomes thiagarajaa?]
4. You cannot be free!
5. Study for violin
6. It is fixed.
7. ... And we had a talk
8. I met Bach in my house.
9. ??? [Mad, Mod, Mood fuge?]
10. Do anything [used in veedu movie]
Here by, I make a humble request to the IR fans in NY area to bring this to the attention of Oriental Records, PO Box, 387, Williston Park, NY 11596, Tel: (516) 746-0140, Fax: (516)747-4285

What I wanted to say was:
... they included this new piece namely, DO NOT COMPARE also, but the order in which the tracks appear in the cassette/CD was totally different frm what it used to be in the earlier version! They have goofed up the track number with the incorrect title names!
After that it was never corrected!
Also, the track numbers and the corresponding titles I have given is from my memory, and there could be mistakes too! But Im 100% sure that what ever is specified in the cover of the CD is totally incorrect! Hence, if any of you still have the old CD/cassette, please confirm the correctness of titles!
Thanks in advance!

Geetha:
Got your point.
Anand Mahadevan:
I've encoded and uploaded 'Don't Compare'
in my IR webpage.
URL: http://members.tripod.com/Ilaiyaraaja/
You can find it in 'Background Scores' section.
I don't have enough hard disk space to record
the track as whole. So I had to split it into
two and fortunately the original track has a pause
in between. So I have it in two files and have made them to play consecutive. Sorry for that.
