Veteran MSV survived in the industry for quite a long time when comparing drastic downfall of Maestro, right after the ARR's entry. Why?

Pennathur, perhaps you should explain what you mean by "recluse of sorts". The way ARR seeks publicity these days it is hard to give him that tag, in my opinion.

penathur ,
Before giving comments on any person ,i think u need to know in what context that was said ...
Please read PAAL NILA PATHAI ,how he refused to do music for "Illamai Unjaladukirathu " ( a film by sridhar) since the director has destered MSV just for commercial reasons .
It is true that sometimes actions of Illayraaja sir seemed to be bit arrogant ,but there is a deep reason for that which can be appreciated only if we know the mind of Illayraaja sir.
He clearly says that he will appreciate only those music directors who are worthy and from whom he can learn a lot .
Just to get fame from the media or get a good name fom the media ,Illayraaja will not say good about a person .
I think we have some problem .It is our expectation that one of the good music director should say nice about our favourite music director .I think that is why ARR fans and IR fans are fighting over that .
and ur comment regarding Illayraaj sir saying about a MD FOOLING PEOPLE BY COMBINATIONS OF SEVEN SWARAS was told long ago by Illayraaja and not in 1993.Again i retiterate ,please go thru the interviews
go thru this http://www.ilayaraja.freeservers.com/FOR-ART.htm
it was published in 1989!!!!
There u can see how clear is Illayraaja in expressing his views .
IR has always praised MDs with exceptional knowledge !!!
JOE,
ARR did say that .But the context was different .The actual statement was different .
"I don't listen to IR music these days .I did not want to have IR"s influence in my music . "
Infact ARR has given due credits to IR .

>>>>"I don't listen to IR music these days .I did not want to have IR"s influence in my music
The problem is people have only read this ""I don't listen to IR music ...". The rest they ignored because it suited them.
You need some valid reason to force your conciousness to bash a person as humble as ARR and ignoring the rest of the statement was just a cool way of pacifying your manasaatchi...right.

Mumbai Ramki,
Thanks for confirming what I thought was merely a rumour. If indeed IR has said something like that it forces me to revise my opinion of him. I have always thought him to possess all qualities in ample measure except humility. But given the sdort of person he is - a truly learned person - we should not expect him to conform to normal standards expected of a layperson. Every genius has the right to be proud and I grant IR that. But to dismiss music as a mere combination of seven notes is to act like Baana Bhattar, "Oru naaL poduma..?" Naushad too loves to talk highly of himself; but he balances that by taling even more highly of others!! Naushad will tell you in one breath that no one has used Yaman like he has and in the next will tell you that he hasn't achieved even 1/10 of what Vishu has done! That's a quirk! When I asked ARR if he does things like IR - locking himself up for a month in Cochin to write a symphony - ARR said, "I too take my music very seriously and can spend days on what others consider trifles."

hello pennathur ,
I think what Illayraja told was in philosphical sense ,which probably we cannot understand or atleast i cannot understand .....
A very small digression ...Swami Vivekananda has called INDIANS fools ,at the same time has said so much in praise of INDIA ,that does not mean it is a contradiction!!!It depends on the context !!!!
When we think of music in technical terms all kinds of things come up ,but if we see it in philosphical we see it in entirely different point of view!!!Is it not ???
ALso never we are trying to compare IR's work discipline and ARR's work discipline ..
What i want to share is that Illayrajaa's statements does not mean disgrace to anyone ...
