If this topic is repeated before, I meant to ask all veterans in the forum, what they will NOW think has been the most sensational album ever in their lives. Surrounding the release and emotional impact on the fan and many people at the time. For me, Priya,KaviKkuyil, Ilamai Oonjaladigirathu, Payanangal Mudiyvathillai etc.. most of IR' 70s-80s were number 1 or so. But, recent times I rediscovered two albums and the news at that time for these two albums.
My No. 1 is Ninaithaley Innikkum - why? at that time even kids were worried that MSV was toppled by IR forever, but the comeback by MSV has no parallel - this is more earth shattering that Hotel California or Thriller albums. Even, the outrageousness of the compositions, singing of SPB, two would-be revolutioanry superstars (Rajni, Kamal) all bring back fond memories of the times, though I didn't know who MSV or IR was at that time.
No. 2: Punnagai Mannan: I just discovered the melodiousness of most of the songs. At that time, there was uproar that IR was going to take away musician jobs by computerized music and so I said to myself no artificial music for me and so avoided this album for maybe over a decade!!!!
No. 3: Ilamai Oonjaladigarathu & Priya (together were the challenge for Ninaithaley Innikkum): Sensationalism at the highest, unbelievable news these two movies, KJYesudas (peak in Hindi), Rajani controversies, and IR' Tarangini recordings.....
These I believe will are my all time no.1 thru 3s!!!!

prabhudas, checked out the url!!! i think that was a major topic, bigger than this, also overwhelming for the range of albums are really wide 1940s thru 2000. Missed that one however, i think many were not yet "passaging" all the major landmark albums of atleast 3 decades even, most of us engrossed in next IR albums, Bombay dreams.
If, SKJ also said it by cvoering 5 decades, then that is something. As I said, NI is tremendous music, tremendous moment in TFM history, but a sad story as well as a flop!!!!!
I remember very vividly the time OTR came out, Nettrikan & Nizhalgal were still going strong in Ungal Viruppam!!!! OTR, each of the songs assaulted the entire south India, all 4 states, i believe. Koodayila Karuvaadu was the sleeper hit, came from nowhere, just like the movie itself. One thaing about this movie was, everydbody had a big smile when they spole about the songs and the movie characters...... It was pure fun. OTR was like that great relief in sight as IR was unstoppable, S-G, not sure, MSV almost Andha 7 natkal like going, going...... people wanted competition for IR, TR gave that thrilling hope!!!!!!
However, I think Ulagam Suttrum Valibhan had great myths aroudn it, and I was in living Kerala at that time, it was like Sivaji' Gowravam, played all over all the time..... and pre IR days, I think USV was something more than Anbe Vaa of Kathalikka Neramillai, etc.....
Honestly, NI & OTR has to be revived on a bigger scale, for these two sensational moments in the IR owned era.
Anyone has details about USV' release music impact in TN, Bangalore, etc..?

I do not know about sensational, but a perfect album to me would be Jhonny. Every song a masterpiece.

taking on the word 'sensational'.... i would say 'Annakili', 'Anjali', 'Roja', 'Amaran' and the likes which were a RAGE when they were released.
A trivia question... which was the first movie to have the SONGS RELEASED FIRST and then the movie?
