Singer Srinivas :
In 1992, in Coimbatore, was when I went to see Maniratnam's Roja because it was a Maniratnam movie. Dreams of playback singing had taken a back seat; I was in Coimbatore and travelling and didn't know how to approach it now. I was just taken aback by the freshness of Roja's music. After a long time, I had bought a tamil film audio cassette. This new person, Rahman, had introduced so many singers; the re-entry of Sujatha, Hariharan (my favorite!), Minmini (God knows who she was at that time!) and Unnimenon. Immediately, I realized that this person has an attitude towards introducing new artists, his music sounds fresh and he was definitely here to stay! On one of my official trips to Chennai, I got hold of Rahman's address and went to see him directly. At that time, he was very accessible (he had just started working on Pudhiya Mugam). He conducted a voice test; I sang a Mehdi Hassan ghazal and he liked it. I mentioned that I lived in Coimbatore and he said that if I moved to Chennai, he might be able to work with me. By the time I came to Chennai in 1994-95, he had shot through the roof!.. The gates had become bigger at Rahman's place (laughs!). It was difficult to even get through to his office. With persistance and a little bit of luck, I was finally able to see him again. As soon as he saw me, he remembered. That's Rahman!.. He's human... and he's got GOD inside him as well! He slowly started giving me singing assignments.
The Different of ARR and Illai: (by srinivas)
How does Rahman usually go about doing a song? Does he tune it first or does he let you sing and improvise as the song progresses?
Rahman's approach is totally different which now many people have started following.(such as Harris Jeyaraj-the clone-said by me,dinesh) For example, Raja Sir has the whole thing in his mind from the very beginning. You don't have a doubt about what you should sing and you better not! (laughs). Two totally different schools of music. With Rahman, when you go in, nothing is ready. He just feeds in some basic chords. When you listen to them on your headphones, you are transported to some other world. Within two minutes, he creates a masterpiece of a loop. Those chords are just magic. You feel like singing so much! He incredibly motivates you when singing, which is also the reason why artists (singers and instrumentalists alike) give him the very best.

x,
blah.. blah..blah.. who do you think you are?
If decent people can't argue with me, what you doing, or are you a self-confessed INDECENT A$$? LOL!
You hard core idiots have been ruining this forum for far too long, with your moronic idolisation and idiotic dismissal of good talents.
You probably think that IR is next to god, just as some people pray to satan believing he is god.
Have you heard of "poli saamiyar" that is what IR is. I know exactly what I am talking about, so don't spare me your sermons.
You need to be exorcised!

Reuben/whatever you are/whatever your name is;
IR like many others -including you and me- is a human being and is not any more perfect than the person next door. However to accuse him of things you have said is the worst form of immoral dishonesty on your part. From your rantings it is pretty clear that you haven't got the faintest idea about TFM, Kodambakkam or the music scene in Madras. Just repeat your accusations to the vadhyar at Vadapalani Kovil or the waiter at Saravana Bhavan or the Veerapandi Mess near Majestic Studio Vadapalani (where IR used to eat before he turned a pure veg and where he gladly will have a cup of tea anytime now)-they will not thrash you or anything. They will simply express pity for your ignorant self. As it is said 'forgive him for knoweth not what he doeth'
As for singers liking to work with ARR - he gets singers to participate and contribute actively to his music; and much of what emerges is a jammed up effort. That is one problem that he has had with the earlier crop of singers who are not used to ambiguity. It is just a different way of singing that's all. As alaways it is the humble listener- yyou and me - who are the best judges of whether it works!

hello mr 6-in-1,
Looks like the only activity in your life, other than eating and sleeping, is bashing IR...and you are afraid that someone will take that away from you. I understand.
The biggest joke is that you just pretend/believe that you are not the one who's ruining all the threads...and ofcourse, you know what you are talking about. It's just the limitation of tiny pea brain (or is there one?). That's what you were born with but unfortunately that didn't grow.
Yes, decent people can't argue with you . I, like many others, just wanted to see the height of your stupidity and you haven't failed us. Everybody else stopped responding to your postings long before (even your best buddy LP, I guess) bcos they have had enough of it and I am just the last one signing off. bye. Say hi to your other 5 (or more?) personalities...

I don't know why people get pleasure in pulling my name unnecessarily. Maybe to make their case stronger?
It is alright to criticise TFM personalities, but not the people making postings. As long as there are x's, cheenus and trankyu's there will be rubens. This is what Koreans call as Yin and Yang.
Whenever I make accusations on IR, I can back them up, regardless of whether it pleases the reader or not.
The best thing for opposite camps to do would then be to disprove what was being said, rather than get into ugly arguments.
Frankly, none of us are here to run for popularity contests!

lp,
so you had enough of it rite? that's what I thought. that's all....I didn't use you to make my case stonger (it can't get any stronger), but just wanted to make mr ruben understand that he is going nowhere with his accusations.
///It is alright to criticise TFM personalities, but not the people making postings///
criticising TFM personalities is ok huh?? Let ruben criticise IR's music with some reasons, and I will be more than happy to argue on that ground...but you know he can't do that bcos that requires some knowledge and that's why he is accusing IR himself just to show his anger. See, he doesn't like IR and the truth is he has absolutely no idea of his music. If he does, there are so many threads in newtfmpage where people discuss IR's music in pages.. why can't he go there put his views? Accusing is easy and being in the music industry successfully for over 25 years is not easy. Ruben is no critic, just an ignorant. I pity him. That's the least he must understand.
///The best thing for opposite camps to do would then be to disprove what was being said, rather than get into ugly arguments. ////
could you tell me what was being said and what's there to disaprove?? first of all what is being said must be proved in order to be disaproved, right? pl tell that to your friend..

Watz up ppl. Looks like ur the only one having an argument over who's better IR or ARR. I don't think i c ARR and Ir arguing to each other that they are better. They both have talents in different areas. You may like one more than the other, that's ur choice don't be so critical or ignorant and for ppl like Reuben, don't reply to them, they're just total losersssssssssssss.
