For those who said i dont know anything about music, those who said i should go back to TFM history to know about whatz music, i wanna say one thing. My blatant criticism on IRs music made everyone think that im a critic of TFM as a whole, whereas im not.
Iam of great fan of MSV, KV, G.Ramanathan FYI ....
Nobody can infuse life into Barathiyar songs like G. Ramanathan did.
Nobody can match KV when it comes to carnatic based songs.
Nobody can give a blend of hindustani, light music and carnatic, like MSV did.
But i somehow dont find any of these in IR. He sounds monotonous and repetitive. Whatever he did in carnatic & hindustani were already achieved by his predecessors. He was found awfully short when it came to western. His music is too much inclined towards folk and that too not originals...
But , I see such rare brilliance of MSV, GR & KVM again in ARR. He is so talented that he is able to fuse all these qualities into one, and on top of that, western classical and pop music. Kannamoochi yenada ( especially the strains of Sahana ) is the best song based on carnatic. Kaale Mega song from Lagaan , based on Malhar Raag, is one of the best based on Hindustani. He has scored so many songs like these, based on Carnatic and Hindustani and also fusion. No need to mention anything about his prowess when it comes to western and light music. The way he does all these effortlessly is what makes me look upon him with awe....
Just wanna reiterate once again that, Im not against Tamil Film Music as a whole ....

Are you sure you heard the right song? I have listened to this song I don't know how many times - still strikes me as a beautiful song. I have never fast forwarded this one when it plays on my tape even though I have heard it many a times.
Guess it is just a matter of taste.

Hey, that's how I feel too when arr-haters (some call themselves ir fans too) write unbelievable amounts of rubbish in all threads all year round.

>>>The only purpose of Oracle's postings is to make sure that ARR is better than IR.
I too feel that some times. I don't agree with that idea. But, what's wrong in being one adhisiaya ARR veriyan(viriyar) here as compared to so many IR veriars.
>>>We, IR fans, don't need to prove it !
If what you say is that you need not have to prove that IR is great , then I can't agree on this more. I too feel that he is incomparable. But, what irks U (and IR fans), when some body says that ARR is great. With your logic, even I don't have to prove that ARR is great.
Why can't IR's greatness and ARR's greatness be mutually exclusive.?
What irks me in perticular is the b.S. argument that ARR's songs are sweet only at the time of release and people forget when time goes by.
I don't know how what to say. World is not dark, it's probably you whoi has closed his eyes.
Praising one doesn't mean that we belittle the other. Atleast, that is what I beleive.

Hey, you Oracle,
kudos pal, for infuriating, instigating us, the Maestro's fans for u have drawn new surfers to this page (as I see), to witness this musical WAR, and gave them the opportunity to know more and more about the Maestro's genius, thanks buddy,
c'mon, still incite us, you (we, as well) will get to know more, yet undiscovered traits of this maestro's genius.

Common Friend,
"But, what irks U (and IR fans), when some body says that ARR is great"
Nothing irks me, the only problem is that when somebody says that ARR is great, he usually adds "IR's music sucks" ... Why do you, ARR fans, need to compare ARR with IR ??????? That irks me, as you say !!!!!!!!!

The Oracle / Karthi:
Pity you. Hope you should have heard about the 'Fox Story'. Unga kathai - adhuthaan. 'Indha pazham puzhikkum'.
I am an IR fan. But I never miss to enjoy / appreciate other MD's brilliant songs. My recent favourites include:
-- Many VidhyAsagar songs
-- ARR's Oru poiyAvathu sol kannae (Jodi)
-- Vaseegara (Minnalae)
-- Barani's Paarvai Onru pOthumae songs
We can be fans of a particular MD. But we should
learn not to deny the pleasure of good music just because the 'name stamp' is different.
If you do that - it is a loss for you only !

Oracle,
You're right man, IR is quite monotonous...much like rice, sAmbar, idli & dOsai...same thing, again and again...over & over so many years...hmmm:-)

Raja's music rice, sAmbar, idli & dOsai - can eat daily..vaithukku romba nallathu..
ARR's music - Like bengali sweet..added with permitted colurs and flavours..cant eat daily..vayiru kettu poidum..
I remember one comparison made by Kumudham Arasu badhilgal abt IR and ARR in which they said "IR's songs are like great novels which u cn read anytime and store it in your shelf..
ARR's songs are like hikoo kavidhai's..u can read it on a bus travel and throw it..AIKO

dear peeps,
Kumudham arasu badhilgal never ever mentioned ,"ARR's songs are like hikoo kavidhai's..u can read it on a bus travel and throw it.."..pls don't misquote just for your convenience...IMHO

Kumudham has always been equal in praising good work, whether it comes from IR, ARR or Deva...(i still remember how KUMUDAM praised Deva for AASAI songs...)

twilight_zone ,
I am pretty sure that Kumudham Arasu badhilgal mentioned like that..may be not like read and throw it..but they said that IR's music is like a great novel or poem and ARR's is like a small hikoo or thunukku which u can read on a bus travel..i remember it very well..regular kumudham readers please clarify !!

peeps:
Well Okay. From now onwards will you promise and belive what ever kumudam says and not question even the slightest of intelligentia (which they don't have ..any way) when they praise ARR for what you think he does not deserve that praise. Is that a deal?

peeps, what arasu badhilgal said was this...
"IR paadalgal marabhu kavidhai, ARR paadalghal pudhu kavidhai"..thats about it...it is a very balanced sentence that takes nothing away from either IR or ARR...OK?
Once SAP Annamalai (the erstwhile editor) was asked this,in arasu badhilgal...
Question: do raja's songs have luck or talent?
Answer:Nanbare, migavum mukkiyamaana ondrai marandhu viteergal. Adhu avar paadalgalil irukkum 'JEEVAN'.
'arasu badhilgal' has been balanced, atleast when it comes to 'music'...another example...
question: sammebathil rasitha paadal?
answer: marabhu kavidhaiyum illaamal, pudhu kavidhaiyumillamal...urai nadaiyil oru haikku vanthirikkudhu keteergala?..."vaseegara" paadal kettu paarungal...
