Versatile singer Hariharan have been bestowed with the honour of
Padmashree on the occasion of the republic day on New Delhi.
He is undoubtedly considered one of the finest singers in India, especially when it comes to light, semi & classical music. He is one of the pioneers of Indian fusion music and probably the only Indian singer to have made a name for him in every genre of popular Indian music. Hariharan is the man who took the Indian musical scene by storm in 1996 with his phenomenally successful album "Colonial Cousins", in a collaborative effort with Leslie Lewis.
He is definitely one of the most sought-after singers in India!

Veteran director Bharathiraja and versatile singer Hariharan have been bestowed with the honour of Padmashree on the occasion of the republic day on New Delhi.
The official release of the names was made yesterday in a crowded press conference. The other awardees are Indian Cricket team captain and Vice Captain Saurav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid.
Like they say, great men do not think about what they do, they just do it great.For Bharathiraja, who had aspirations to become actor but ended up donning the mantle of direction, this comes as a sweet reward for his commitment.
Bharathiraja was not avaiable for comment but the mood in the camp is upbeat. One person in the team, "It has been long time in the coming and is perfectly timed before the release of his movie. It reflects the amount of hard work and certainly he is destined to receive many more awards in the future."
