National Awards: I felt Ilayaraja should've
got the Best Music Director award for atleast
ChiraiChalai or Moga Mull (was it released during
this period) They had great music as against
Minsara Kanavu. What do you guys think?

  He was presented with the Best Film Music Composer Award, an annual award, by the Government of India in the years 1984, 1986 and 1988 for the movies

  2. Saagara Sangamam
  I don't remember the 3rd movie. As far as I know all these are for the Telugu movies.

  Presented with 'Kalaimamani Award', an annual award for excellence in the field of arts, by the Government of the State of Tamil Nadu, India.
  
  Presented with the Award of Governement of the State of Andhra Pradesh, India, for excellence in music.
  
  Conferred the title 'Isaignani' (wisest in the field of music) in the year 1988, at Karaikudi, Tamil Nadu, India.
  
  Conferred the Degree of Doctor of Letter (Honoris causa) in March, 1994, by the Annamalai University, Tamil Nadu, India.

  Award of Appreciation presented in the year 1994, by the Foundation and Federation of Tamil Sangams of North America.
  
  Bestowed with the honorary citizenship and presented with the key to the Teanech Township, by Mr. John Abraham, Mayor of Township of Teanech, New Jersey, U.S.A., in June, 1994.
  
  Presented with the Award of Governement of the State of Kerala, India, in the year 1995, for excellence in music.
  
  Conferred the Degree of Doctor of Letter, in the year 1996, by the Madurai Kamarajar University, Tamil Nadu, India.

  Iam a die hard fan of AR.But for that reason,I would not blindly accept whatever he composes.Both IR and ARR were two icons in the music industry,but their styles are completely different.No one can take the credit from ARR and IR for making the TFM popular across the world.
  But when it comes to BGM and rerecording ARR has improved through these years but still IR is the king in these fields and ARR is no where near his standards.ARR is a novice in these areas.PIthamagan's BGM and rerecording are the recent milestones of IR(no surprise his name was projected first).
  Meanwhile many seem to confuse between BGM and rerecoding.Only this forum could be the right place to ask.
  Can anyone say exactly what is meant by re-recording???

  BGM as all know is BackGround Music. It is a generic term..it can be the misic that comes in a song or in the background of the scenes in the movie. The latter is called re-recording.
  
  It is called re-recording, because a Music Director apparently records or shoots the whole film for the second time with music ( after the director records the visuals with camera )

  Thanks for the info RAJA.Can anyone give some instances of some scintilating re-recording
  in both IR and ARR movies.I think Both "The Legend of Bhagat Singh" and "Alaipayuthe"had good re-recording.Iam not fit to comment on IR's re-recording.

  Friends,
  IR is a Maestro. Maestro is a World honour. After getting that honour, how it will be if he is given the thukkada awards? It will be like giving a bachelors degree for a person who has completed Ph.D. What they can do is just honour him. It will be like honouring the music. That's all. As far as ARR is concerned, he too will become another Maestro. He has not improved much in his BGM. The other thing is to give a pucca song, he takes a long duration. That should change. Maestro composes songs in 5 minutes. That too explicitly wonderful. That is really incredible.

  Going by the same argument of Siraichallai Vs Misarakannavu, Bharathi is way better than Kannathil Muthamital. By KM got the award because ARR, MR are better marketing campaigners (boot lickers) than IR or Gnanasekaran (Director of Bharathi)

  strong comments on IR.
  
  After A.R.Rehman's and because of him, other Music Directors have got chance to give weak music. Because IR has bought thousands of musi listeners from north to south. He bought more values by composing in his own style within the border of classical Music. Today ARR is one of the best music director. But today his weak entity in Tamil Film Industry by giving 4 to 5 films in an year has given chances More Music directors, even though they not having more/complete knowledge about music such as classical & western. By giving some noisy music, they are destroying value Music itself. As far as I am concern IR never had competition between any one. But If ARR stays strongly in Tamil Film by giving 20 - 30 film in an year, then some sort of respect may get to South Indian Film. Otherwise I am sorry ARR would'nt be like IR. Because. IR in Music World is a Maestro and he is always. But more entries of L-Board Music Directors may hit both IR & ARR. This is only because of ARR and not IR. All are bootlicker of Music whether ARR or IR or others. Then what........

  The award does not matter for IR. As he is a Mastero. May be for sound engineer ARR.
  IR can command a move from start to finish. But none have matched him till now even so called sound engineer ARR also.
