Its 15$ a month. The same program schedule as in India but only adjusted to California time.
yipeee.
why is this relevant to newtfmpage?
Most TFM DF'ers who comment on music are based in USA and they have to buy CD'a and cassts to actually get to hear Latest TFM music. Now its on Sun TV most of the time and so more TFM for USA DF'ers.

raycas, ther is something called the proximity theory. it is a paradox. butleave that. (Indians assimilate very easily, but the first generation cannot do it.)
look at the jewish people in Kerala, have been there for 500 years and yet cannot assimiliate. most of them left in the 70s and 80s even taking their synagogues stone by stone with them!
regardin 30%, the stuff produced by second generation or after indians abroad does not have the same sensibilities as indians in india. can u guys enjoy the humor of say senthil goundamani or adoor bhasi types? u cannot, western civilization imposes several restraints on emotions and sensibilities

Hi.. I live in NJ, USA. I was told that Sun tv programs are based on calif timings. Does that mean that here in NJ we get all prime time programs around midnight? Would like to hear from somebody here in the East coast who is already receiving it.
Thanks.

Shankar,
I heard that Dish network does not give the international dish alone. They would provide the international dish only if you purchase the american dish and receiver.. I got this information from the site and I'm not sure how you could do expandable cable and dish. If it works for you can you clarify as to how much you pay for the international dish & installation along with the service fee etc etc... also will you be able to see the cricket matches with this international dish alone and having ur cable for american channels.... Thanks

I just called and ordered through the number I got at www.kbs-tv.com They have promotion for just having Sun tv and with 1 year contract you get the dish and installation for $79.99. They did not ask me to add another dish for american programs.

Jersey Thamizhan, I did the same too.... Do you know if we can get pay per view cricket on that dish??

When I asked her the same question, she said with the same dish, you can get all the internatinal channels and also the cricket match (ICC) on the pay per view basis. For just Sun TV, there is no taxes, where as when you do Pay per view or ICC match, you have to add taxes also.
Unfortunately I wont have it installed until next week.
Good luck to you Thiru.

Thiru.. I checked the Sun Tv site for schedule and looks like all the programs are scheduled for Calif timing. The programs that come at 9PM in India comes for us here at midnight. Any idea why they would do that? Is this temp or do they plan to keep it that way and then with daylight savings time, it will prepone by an hour ?!?!?
- From: Thiru (@ 63.169.243.35)
on: Fri Sep 27 16:55:16 EDT 2002
J T , I'm not sure whether they are going to change the programming to suit EST.... I guess with daylight savings it gets advanced by an hour... We might not get the primetime programming but I guess we should be happy with getting something rather than nothing...

Now should I also get Tivo so that I dont miss on those prime time programs ?!?! I dont think Zee tv is broadcasted in similar way.

I heard from some guys from chicago that the SUN tv programming is adjusted to suit to that particular timezone i.e., east coast guys would get their first programme at 6.15 EST and west coast guys would get their programme at 6.15 PST.. I dont understand how this is possible, but that's what I heard... can anyone confirm??

I had suntv installed as soon as I came to know through this thread. The quality has been excellent. For the first two days (after installation) there seemed to be a time lag between the video and audio but it seems to have improved now (or I have gotten used to seeing it that that I can't make out the difference, :-)).

I am planning to get SunTV along with 100 American Channels. With a friend's gift certificate, I can help my friend a 5$ rebate per month for 12 months. And I also don't get to pay $49.99 for an additional receiver. They give upto 2 receivers free, I was told. Then how come they'd charge me $49.99 in I don't have the gift certificate from a friend of mine? Can you please clarify my doubt?
When I call 888-920-4438, one person answers that i have to pay 100$ for the dish; and they'd provide 2 dishes and 2 receivers and all equipments free. another person in the same office at different time says that I have to pay 199$ extra, if I don't have the gift certificate with me. A third person says I have to pay $49.99 if I don't have the gift certificate. I don't understand which infrmation is correct?
Also please clarify my doubt whether I need to pay extra 5$ per month if I want to use SunTV in the family room Tv and bedroom TV upstairs?
Thak you for your time.

Is it true?

Remember I mentioned I was getting KTV, Sun News, SCV, along wit all the Udaya/Surya etc etc TVs as a full network? Well, it was not to be long lived. Towards end of last year, sun tv started scrambling their channels and advised viewers to contact their respective "cable operators" and advised cable operators to get authorised decoders to descramble the signal. They gave some contact nos. I'll list them here for those interested:
(91)044-28174236 &
(91)044-28174237
So anyway, I called them to find out how much it wud cost us to get the authorised decoders.
We were quoted
$37,500 as a one-off cost and $2500 for every subsequent 6 months. (all in Indian currency)
But in our case, our sat receiver is for purely non-commercial and non-profit reasons and hence the cost is not justified. So now it's down to only Sun tv (from the sun network).

SunTV is transmited to the United States by DishNetwork. Transmission signals from DishNetwork falls into Canada. Thus you can watch SunTV in Canada if you subscribe to DishNetwork.
However, DishNetwork has no authority to transmit programs into Canada. So you may want to call them and ask if they will accept subscribers from Canada. They may not want to provide service to a jurisdiction in which they have no permision to provide service.

In Toronto, Canada, some people install Dish for SUN TV at $350 cdn. Monthly programming fee is $19. It is expensive comparing to USA. I don't know whether they are agents for Dish network or not.
Does anyone know better deal for Toronto, Canada?
