I think it is mettukku paattu. MettaththaanEy thirudaraanga. After that they go to the lyrics writers and request to force fit the lyrics into the song.

i do accept that but there are few songs which were written first aprom mettu potrukanga
u must be knowing the song
"senthamizh thenmozhiyal " from malaitta mangai
the song was first written and then was the music composed so there are few exceptions as well

Irrespective of whether a song was tuned to the lyrics or whether the lyrics were wriiten for a particular song, u can always copy the tune and write your own lyrics. i dont think it matters.
So SM iam not sure i understood what u exactly meant. for example if iam right IR tuned kanne kalaimaane to the lyrics of kannadasan. u can always borrow the tune and give it to vairamuthu and he will come up with some syrupy lyrics for that song in no time. so i dont know what's exactly the big deal is about.

Perhaps what SM wants to know is 'If every MD is forced to compose tunes to already written lyrics will it stop plagiarism?'
The answer is YES, it would bring down the level of plagiarism since it is obvious that it is much more difficult to copy when u have constraints in the form of lyrics.
But for this to happen either every MD should be making a conscious effort to tune to lyrics or there should suddenly be a rule in TFM industry that all songs should be composed to pre-written lyrics. I dont see both of them happening.
if u interpret SMs question in another way like I did and ask 'if plagiarism will stop by itself in the future if all the songs were tuned to lyrics now?' then the answer is a obvious NO. its just like writing different sets of lyrics to fit the same song which should be a piece of cake for our lyricists.

Possibility of plagiarism is more on `mettukkuppAttu'.
However, when a poet sits down to write a poem that'll later be tuned into a song, they sure'll need some kind of musical sense which might influence the melody. for e.g. when Bharati wrote some of his musical songs, thanks to his musical knowledge, he could also dictate the scale. This in some way influences the melody.
Now, if a melody of some already popular song is influencing the poet (lingering in his mind), the lines are going to be in accordance to that. (He can also suggest the MD that he had been influenced by that). So there's some possibility of plagiarism, not influenced by the MD but by the song writer.
Am I confusing?

either way it is, the great music mega-thief of tamil nadu ( i mean ThennisaiThendral ) will produce the same old tunes but in different molds. So we will taste the same food but in dofferent form rather!!!
Plagiarism is something to do with attitude. And thus, if the Great Illusionist A|R|R says that time constraint by producers lead him to remix old Tamil tunes with latest western pops...I would not agree. Because there is this one guy who can serve people with different tastes and (surprisingly) different forms of food for the past 24yrs non-stop even with mega time-constraint!! Guess who!!
