TN: Tamil actor V K Ramasamy passes away
Chennai, Dec 24. (UNI): Veteran Tamil film actor V K Ramasamy died here today following a prolonged illness.
He was 79. He is survived by his wife, four sons and three daughters.
Ramasamy, who began his career as a stage artiste along with the doyen of Tamil Cinema Sivaji Ganesan in the early 1940s, had acted in more than 500 films, including Sivaji's maiden venture 'Parasakthi'.
As a teenager, he joined the Ponnusamy Pillai drama troupe and later associated himself with 'Kalaivanar' N S Krishnan's drama troupe.
His performance in 'Naam Iruvar', a stage play, set the tone for his entry into the film industry. The play was made as a film by AVM productions in 1947 and it turned out to be the first film for Ramasamy.
Having earned the distinction of starring with five generations, Ramasamy won the Tamil Nadu Government's 'Kalaimamani' award in 1970. He had acted with Tamil movie icons like the late MGR and Sivaji Ganesan, as well as the next generation superstars Kamal Haasan and Rajnikant.

A very natural actor indeed.
He acted as hero's(or heroines?) father in "Naam Iruvar"..According to Sogam,he was 79 when he expired and his first film was in 1947..So he was just 24 when he acted in that old man role..
Whenever i think of VKR his dialogue deliveries like "aaa.mudhevi mudhevi..itha kuda ozhunga seyya theriyala"..
and revathi shouting "Nambina..vidatheenga nambina..pideenga nambina"..from Arangetra Velai..
and those mischeivous role in Varusham padhinaru and Idhayathai thirudathey..
And that short and sweet role in my all time fav Mouna Raagam..
and that humorous father role in the classic Aan paavam..ethani ethanai padangal..evalavu beautiful roles..
He shined in character and negative roles too..
But i love him for his innocent comedy and dialogue delivery..Surely TF will miss one of the greatest actors who contributed to the film industry for more than 50 years..:-(
May his soul rest in peace !!
