I feel mano does it much better. Listen Mukkala Mukabala and Thanga thamarai magalae, i feel anyone could spot out SPB in the later song but it takes a lot of time to spot Mano in the earlier songs. There are a lot of instances which resemble the same.

No Way,
Have you heard Unai thane in Kadal parisu,
Have you heard Nachina fuddu in Indradu chandradu.. (Mano outrightly spoilt the song in tamil).
Just one song cannot bring mano to top.

Mano voice sucks in high pitch. There is no way he could be better than SPB on any account.
He has a long way to go before being compared to SPB, the great

Should read as "Mano's voice"

Comparing Mano with SPB is like saying that it would have been great listening to Aayiram Nilave Vaa/Oru Chinna paravai/Illamai yennum Ppoongatru in Mano' voice. that is disaster. please leave SPB out of this comparison thing going on. IR and ARR, two poles apart are being compared, it is okay, because IR left out something that ARR a clever fellow discovered and used as his trademark.

Any discussion on mano and spb must be based on 'apple to apple' comparisons. Listen to the songs of Gitanjali (Telugu) and "idayathe thirudathey ?" (Tamil version) - you'll know why one is leagues ahead; or maybe putting it differently, in a totally different plane altogether.
Pls come back to this topic when Mano has a Thyagayya / Sankarabharanam / "pon malai pozhuthu"
Gavai...(kannada film)...etc to his credit.
Mano is an excellent playback singer in his own right - but I guess it is premature to compare him with a person whom even L-P (of Hindi fame) used to categorise with Md Rafi as the only complete artistes in Indian playback arena !!
Modulation the way I understand is not just changing the voice - it must blend to suit the mood of the song / lyrics. In this context, I remember a not-so-famous-but-excellent song by SPB - "mayile, mayile...un thogai engey...kulir kalam allavo tanimayil vidalamo...". SPB brings to life the superb effect the obvious lyrics provide, coupled with the tune set by IR ? Anyone remember this song ?

Karthick,
Are you bored? Actually, Mano is a pretty good singer and let us leave it at that. Why compare him to 'the definition of playback singing' and try to expose Mano's limitations. Just to highlight Mano's positives, I saw a New Year version of Paaduthaa Theeyagaa (conducted by SPB for Eenaadu TV) in which Mano sang a 'padhyam' superbly. Mano, I am told, is the fastest recording artist and has finished many recordings (track and original) in less than an hour. Sounds like Lens Crafters, does'nt it? Mano's voice modulation similar to Mukkaala has been done by him in Rukku Rukku Rukkumani (PeLLi) and Ayyaa MaarEy/ Aadhab ArzE (Ganesh). Please focus on the positives of Mano instead of making provocative comparisons with a legend and, thereby, causing DFers to spend purposeless time on the negatives/deficiencies of artists.

Mayile, Mayile is from `Kadavul amaitha medai', an IR film. It is a great song (supposedly set in Hamsadwani ragam). IR once upon a time said in an interview to Cinema Express: I like this song the most!!!! (In the same interview he has also told that MSV is one of the greatest composers India has seen)
That song had just one minus point: Pronunciation deficiencies of Jency

Guys I'm not comparing SPB to Mano in technical terms, It does not make sense as well. All I say is, as far as Voice modulation is concerned Mano is a better than SPB

In voice modulation no one can beat SPB, forget about MANO

SPB does voice modulation effortlessly (like PS) by showing subtle differences in the pronunciation according to the actors - mainly Rajinikaanth and Kamal. Mano has changed his voice in Mukaalaa Mukkabulaa (like SJ does in so many songs). I feel the former is tougher than the latter.
But neither SPB nor PS accepts that!

Shankar,
Ummm...well... I preferred Jency in her solos like 'adi penne...' the racy song in Mullum Malarum and also in Tan Tananum...in that BR's movie. But here it seemed a bit out of place. Ofcourse it did not take too much away from the great composition.

> Voice modulation Mano or SPB ? who does it much > better ?
Mano is a great singer. But SPB is a genius. IMO, SPB's voice modulation is much better than any other TFM singer, let alone Mano. Take the song "singa nadai pottu" (I am quoting this as it is the most recent song of SPB and Rajni) from 'Padayappa'. I can't imagine any other singer for Rajni for that song other than SPB. If not for him, that song is not even worth hearing once.

Mano was initially a track singer for SPB, and nowadays I see a lot of SPB's influence in his singing.

Mano mostly imitates SPB. Though he is a good singer on his own, it is premature to compare him with SPB. By the by is there any posting for songs review?
