The 70s is a special period for me and holds a special place in my heart. Unfortunately it is a period overlooked by many people and we hardly hear songs from this period nowadays.
Whenever, I have the time, I would like to share the lyrics of some of my favourites and have discussions of this period.

U have not heard me singing, u have no idea about my voice or singing abilities, yet u make such comments, I do not find it funny, but Pathetic.
If you do not know the lyrics that's fine, but don't make such intimidating statements, not that I am offended.

Old timers to this thread would remember the discussion on Surangani song..
Just now a knowledgeable friend of mine told me it had its origins in Sri Lanka and uses the melodious Lankan Tamil.
It was probably part of an album

Prabu,
Yes, the song surangani is originally from Sri Lanka. It is a folk song where a lover proudly telling his girl friend about the fresh fish he specially brought for her. The original version must be about 50 years old. The song was so popular, there had been numerous duplicate versions. Later on it had appeared in one or two Tamil movies too.
I could not find the original version, but I am giving below the links of three duplicate versions in which some of the original words have been added and or modified:

http://www.infolanka.net/miyuru_gee/seventy/s446.ram

Singer A.E.Manoharan (I think he has acted in few Tamil movies) has his own version of the song with few Tamil words in it. Here is the link:

Candi,
There was a song in "VaNakkaththukkuriya kaadhaliyE'(sometime in 1978-79-80) in which Sridevi comes in a duel role, one being an Anglo-Indian. The song (Sridevi-Rajani)goes like this:
Swing Swing unadhu oonjal naan!
Sweet Sweet unadhu paadal naan!
Sure, Sure unadhu adimai naan!
------------------------------!
My darling indha mayakkam,
Good Morning sollum varaikkum!
naam kaaNum indha nerukkam
naaL thorum --------irukkum!
This was a beautiful, seamless blend of Tamil and English! I don't know whether you mean this song!

was it "saakar katti Rajathi " from Petralthan Pillaya?
With Vairamuthu/Vali/ARR combo not there in 1970s i doubt the usage of so many English words.
Candithompson seems to be a "Vazhi thavariya Aadu" into this page.

I remember 2 lines:
"AnbaalE thEdiya en aRivu chelvam Onaay!
Uyir naan, udal nee ena aanaay!"
In the song Cho drags 'Ooonaay' imitating Trichy Loganathan! He also says " Idhellaam paarkka mudiyuma? Cinema heronnu vandhaachchunnaa Onaay aaga irundhaalum katti pidichchu kaadhal paNNa vENdiyadhuthaan!!!!"

70s i think is probably the worst period in tamil films......... (music may have been good coz ilayaraja's entry in the scene)..i am talking about films......... most of the films were pathetic... it took a change from the usual trend... melodramatic, hipee culture, adult oriented themes found a place in every movies..and with ageing mgr and shivaji..... (oh that film with shivaji with such a big stomach pairing up with sridevi who was barely in her 16's ) and balachandar's controversial subjects , illegal relations........ 70's movies easily the worst of all time Tamil cinema in my opinion..... i dont know whether i am a right person to comment coz i was not yet born in that time.... however it is my opinion.......what do other friends feel about this?
