It is from "Yezhavadhi manothan" music by G.K.Venkatesh (probably IR as many songs which came under G>K>V's name were scored by IR)

L Vaidyanathan (brother of L Shankar & L Subramaniam) composed some great numbers for the film Ezhavathu Manithan (starring Nizhalgal Ravi & Ratna).
This film had many Bharatiyar songs including the Yesudas-Neeraja duet, "Veenaiyadi Nee Enakku, Mevum Viral Naanunakku"

The first (not original, which was written by Bharathiyar) Kaagai chiraginiley nandalaalaa was in the movie Thirumaal Perumai which came out in the 60s.
Soolamangalam sang this song for KR Vijaya in the movie.

"Nee pournami" and "Uyirae Uyirae" - are these from "marupakkam" ? If so are you sure that MD was not IR ?

guys, iam quite sure that Kaakai chiraginilae - the ezhavathu manithan version - was sung by Rajkumar Barathy(great-grandson of mahakavi barathiar). The song veenaiadi nee enakku was also sung by him. Raghuvaran was in the movie and except the song Achamillai Achamillai, everything else was sung by Rajkumar Barathy. Achamillai Achamillai was sung by SPB. The Director V.Hariharan won the best first film director for this movie, i think in the year 81-82.

"Kaakkai chiraginilei....", "Veenaiyadi nee enakku...." and "Odi vilaiyaadu paappaa...." in EZHAAVATHU MANITHAN are sung by KJY.

KJY also sings "Entha neramum...." (EZHAVATHU MANITHAN)

I confirmed this.. Kaakai Chiraginile was sung by Raajkumar Barathi and MD is L.Vaidyanathan. Another song in the same film, "Thikkukal Ettum Sithari, Mazhai .." Was sung by chorus from Koothupattarai, an experimental stage group from Madras.
BTW, there is a excellent piece of L.Vaidhyanatahn in a movie where Amala starrs as an Heroine and is directed by Yugi Sethu. The story goes like Amala is gangraped and she uses 4 guys to seek revenge..etc. Anybody knows the name of the movie?

I have the cassette. I had it for a long, long time. The four (4) songs that I listed are by KJY. Unless there are multiple versions of these songs in the movie!

There is indeed a Kaakkai chiraginile version in revathi raagam too which used to come in DD. It had a female voice.
But the popular version is definitely by KJY.

Karthik, I guess that film you are talking about
is koottup puzhukkaL.
- From: RAJ (@ master.hyd.deshaw.com)
on: Thu Jan 28 16:00:49 EST 1999
No, it is not koottu puzhukkal, which ws by R.C.Shakthi.

Kaakkai ChiraginilEy in Ezhaavadhu manidhan (as well as the other Bharatiyaar songs in that movie) were definitely by KJY. I have a 4 cassette collection of KJY called 'endrum iniavai' which includes kaakkai chiraginilEy. BTW I think Madurai T.N.Seshagopalan does a superb job in rendering this song in the raga brindavan sarang.

- From: Raj (@ master.hyd.deshaw.com)

No, babu it wasn't "mathangal Ezhu". It was the second film of yugi sethu. There was no amala in it.

Kavithai paada neramillai
*ing Amala, yugi sethu and an emaciated nazar.
