What do people say to starting sister threads to the various review of album threads, that are for criticising the reviews? Thus the original review will not be lost in a flood of dissenting posts and people can actually read some reviews. This is a serious suggestion. If I hear some assenting voices, I'll go ahead and do it.

ravi,
a better way would be to store the reviews like, shashi's, shrikAnth's, et al post in a read only page and give links to them in the review of albums thread at the top. that way a phlethora of threads could be avoided. Links to the reviews can be removed after a month's time of posting (and moved to the archives if need be) and that way the "header" can be maintained at a reasonably small size!

ravi: Yes, you are right -- if there are more criticism in one, automatically new on comes up, good example is IR new albums, sethu songs, and now one more has popped up....

Ravi:
the only problem in making a few people revie it and put in one thread and the criticisms of the review in toher threads is that someone with an obvious bias against a MD like IR might post a negative review of an album, based purely on their opinions, and this will be allowed to stand as an official review of the album.
I would suggest that we keep it as is where people could go thru' the thread and discern for themselves what people with their obvious slants and biases feel about an album. If you allow only a few selected people or even just the reviewer to comment on album, it may make it as if a few people's opinion will be more valid than the others. It will not be fair.
It may be irritating but ok for a frequent browser who might discount a review based on the past biases expressed by the reviewer. But if there is a new browser wanting to genuinely find the quality of an album, the album could done a big injustice by a reviewer who is biased against an MD.
I think what we have now is a good system where both the proponents and the distractors of the album post their opinions. Just reading thru' the other discussion points, one could easily discern the biases and discounttheir opinions accordingly.

aruLarasan: I like your idea, but I was wondering about the work part too :-). I am trying to come up with a way to minimize work for us. A semi-automatd way. I think I can modify something I did for the Hub to work here. Lemme see.

krish: We will certainly not limit the reviewers to a select few.. we will just require that the language be, well, moderate. :-).

While condemning people who transgress, I would like to thank the people in the SG thread, who are disagreeing in an, err, agreeable way. :-). Just shows what can be when we get passion out of the way.

Ravi: this is a neverending road!...sorry I dont see any light on this issue.
Since my name was in the reviewers list, I can make one point clear,I am not biaszzed towards any MD, if I do a smooth review things are smooth (eg:Time - I was a friend during that time) - , if one thing goes on the wrong side thats it people call me names etc.. (eg:Sethu)...I dont know who is biassed here.
I am more concenred about the reviewers, they are the people who are trashed the most here.
I think we can leave the discussions just like this and you can try filtering the bad langauge alone.

Do we have any help screen, guideline, rules(if any) for freshers.
To minimize threads we can add additional query and ask the user to verify old database before create a new one. Otherwise user can send a request and admin can create a thread for them. But it's lengthy process.
We should avoid indecent writings and junk postings as well. Some people are exchanging their personal schedules, long week end programs, dinner menu … (just kidding)
I must take this opportunity to thank our DF admin on behalf of newcomers. Thanx.

Jay Narayanswamy: We do have a FAQ and How-To doc. for new users.. and old. :-). Tell us if any additions can be made to them. There is a search box at the top of the page that people can use to look for threads.. We urge people to do that in the How-To doc. The problem is no one reads it. :-). We have a minimal filter that tries to stop vulgar words.. Also we try to maintain a constant vigil for such posts. It is upto the DFers also to help us maintain the decorum of this place. As I said earlier, do bring any transgressions to our notice. Thanks.

What about having a list of common acronyms or abbreviations posted so that new comers are not left in the dark?

I am a not a frequent visitor to newtfmpage. However, I found some unwanted words being used in one of the discussion. I would expect discussions to be healthy and not too biased.

Guys: You have been using the review section for a while. Any comments/suggestions on usability? :-).
Of course, as always, keep suggesting ideas for the betterment of TFMP as a whole.

yes Ravi. My suggestion is that it can be made as "Review of albums" rather than " Review of new albums". The old albums too can be reviewd by the Dfers and good reviews can be filed. This is one serious suggestion. but as I infer it may require whopping amounts of memory though !!!

Please purge my previous posting...venting...I don't think it is fair...whether I aceept it or not people in this forum have the right to write thier opinions be it in a review or whereever..I was just disgusted by what i consider to be a bias (based on all the previous posting of a praticular reviwer) and a deliberate attempt.
I am going to just train myself not to frequent this forum and having to read such biases.

Ravi!
May be making it a `multi page' stuff will help:-) (I mean something like the `old responses', say `old reviews', which will help not requiring to scroll through the reviews of `time' & sethu' before looking at the HR review by Srikanth!)

Ravi, would it be possible to group reviews of a single movie together in a page.... Like all reviews of Kannukkul Nilavu grouped together etc... Automation of this thing might mean all the reviewers using the same spelling for the album though:-))

Karthik: Good suggestion. We are already working on it.
