Hi guys,
At last was able to grab the audio cassette of GURU.The songs are sensational.This is no IR fan commenting with a prejudice.It clearly shows to prove what inspiration can do.Raja seems to be really inspired by this movie.The film contains 5 songs with Mammotty giving an intro before each number.
Song 1:Guru charanam-chorus
=======
Comments:Big time composition.The interludes are not complex from raja standpoint but defintly great and simple.Sure winner.Shades of "Ethanai vagai" from satileelavathy(title song).
Song 2:Maadan Maadathu-chitra
========
Excellent composition.The song is based on ragam "Hamsanandam"(Thenral vandu ennai thodum).The interludes are class and the song will last time.
song 3:Devaasangeetham-Yesudas/chitra
=========
A lot of western classical and a terrific BGM.
Song 4:Thatharam -MG.sreekumar
=========
Excellent melody and great singing.
Song 5:Aruna -Yesudas/chitra
=========
The first full fledged western classical song from Raja.Its a start to end classic.Highly complex orchestration with excellent singing from yesudas.Should go down as one of his best compositions
So guys, raja is back in full swing.Hope he gives us more classics.

I got the cassette mailed in by my cousin from Dubai.I tried it in Edison,NJ but none of the audio guys carry this tape.The best bet is to contact Thomsun audio guys and ask them to mail it for you.

I do'nt mind posting it on the net except that it will be a big infringment of the copyright law.
I will try to post a sample on the net.

I also liked the songs from "Man of the match",
particularly "Kathirumpothi".
There is one more Malayalam movie "Kallukonnuru ponnu" which has nice songs. This is also by IR.

for those who haven't seen this:
There is a review of GURU in Deccan herald,

Kumar,
I am not writing this bcos TOI has written that the BGM is poor in GURU.TOI's reviews are not upto the mark.For Grahan they had written the songs by Asha Bhonsle were the reason for the songs success."kehatai he jisko..." is the best song in the movie and then comes "Naacho jaise thumhi vaise..." both by Kavita krishnamoorthi (I don't say AB's songs are bad )This will be evident if U listen to the songs.So please don't go by their words.
Teh same TOI had written that sooriya vamsam is a so-so movie with no proper story-line blah,blah...But the movie was the blockbuster of the year.

I dont think so much for the TOI reviews nevertheless, surya vamsam is surely a mediocre movie... just because it is a blockbuster ... it doesnt mean that it is a good movie...

Hi,
The Song 5, "Thatharam ..." has fine touch of
Western Classical as Anand told. It reminded me
the "Spring" from "Vivaldi - 4 Seasons". IT IS
NOT A COPY. I felt like this another face of
the "Spring Season" viewed by IR.
This song can be
treated equall to Vivaldi's composition. Unfortunately this piece is quite short.
Anand, "Maadam Maadathu" is in Hamsaanandhi?
I am not able to recognize the Raaga. But sounds
very familiar to me. I will listen some more
times. Can u confirm this?

My dear friends in Raja and Tamil film music
Has anyone heard the songs of Paadum Paraivagal. They are I think unbelievable. But, they did not become hits in Tamilnadu!! I am still searching to find the original album. Not easily available.
For info of others. The info on the jacket of GRAHAN is wrong. The songs are wrongs so are also the names of singers.

Dear Pals ,
I think that we are talking about the
Thamil version of GURU. I haven't heard that one. But I heard the malayalam version.'Madam madathu "
I think, is the"Minnaram manathu"of malayalam.
That song is based on Hamsanadam.-not Hamsanandi.
The famous karnatic song "Bandureethi.." is of hamasanadam. One song in "Virasat" also of that raga.(I don't remember the lyric.The scene was Pooja Batre's thinking about marriage)
Rajeev.
