Valli's lyrics are just too good.Imagine writing lyrics like Akada,Lap tap(from Selva),Maya Machindra and getting away with it. If you think otherwise try writing lyrics like "Moozhgatha shipe friendshippa". Bull's eye!!

  "vaali"nu oru character Ramayanathil undu, he would
  get half the strentgth of the opponent he is facing - athE mAthiri, when OUR vaali was facing
  Kannadasan he wrote vey good lyrics (Nammore Velan
  seekiram oru list pOduvAr!!). Now valli has to
  write facing VAIRAMUTHU (Dia 'mundu') and others,
  so he has changed his style to 90's -
  "adjustability is educability" aiyyA.
  
  This is the age of electronic synthesizers,
  no one seem to care for the words/pronunciation
  (esp. all the ARR songs with new comers can't
  pronounce 'la', 'La', 'za' irritates).
  
  Vaali gives what MDs and Directors want -
  he is doing a great job. He introduces all
  the newage words in his songs (laptop, silicon
  graphics, pager, baggie, take it easy, spielberg,
  jurassic park, strawberry,.....) which is better
  than copying from literature and using
  "NarumugaiyE" and "Nagumo" for which majority
  dosn't know the meaning.

  Vaali indeed gave some awesome songs when he was facing Kannadhasan. His songs for MGR boosted his image among the public. Songs from padakOtti, paNam padaiththavan etc were real gems. 'mathavip pon mayilaaL' is another. He continued his wonderful run with 'kaatRukkenna vEli', 'kiNNaththil thEn vadiththu', 'kanaak kaaNum kaNgaL mella' ....
  
  You can include his 'maasaRu ponnE varuga' in your list of 'Literature in TFM' - it is a classic. Similarly, 'ennuLLe ennuLLE' from vaLLi. He did a wonderful job in expressing something which could have become vulgar even if he had deviated the slighest bit. Vairamuthuvai vittirundhaa kadhai kandhal aagi irukkum.
  
  The same Vaali wrote the most vulgar lyrics in the history of TFM for Indhu. It is also true that he uses a lot of English words. adhu kaNdippaa kaalaththin kattaayam. He accepts that he writes non-sense because like it. While Vairamuthu still tries to give a more non-sensical justification to his non-sensical lyrics.

  Kannadasan personally called Vaali and congratulated him after listening to this song.

  "Kannan pirandha velaiyile" is from Pugundha
  Veedu (MD: SG); the song is very nicely written
  keeping the situation in mind. That's why
  K'dhasan must've appreciated it. (If you don't know
  the scene ask and then I will write the details.)
  The song has been included in the Kannan list.
  (In MIME 20 we included the song in the tie
  breaker, but no one could find out.)

  "kAtRukkenna vEli..kadalukkenna mOOdi.." is in AvargaL. This is not by Vaali, but Kannadasan.
  I also like some oldies by Vaali:
  
  "uRavu enRoru sollirundhaal.." (Anandha Jothi)
  "yaar siriththal enna..ingu yaar.." (idayaththil nee)
  "pavaLakkodiyilE muththukkaL kOrthaal.." (panam padaiththavan ?)
  
  I am sure "vaazhvE maayam indha vaazhvE maayam" is another good one by vaali. Especially the punch line "meyyendRu mEniyai yaar sonnathu..?"..Too good.
