Probably we all know he is the slowest composer in the world. Is it lack of creativity. Or is it due to the fact he has to keep mixing and matching to get it bearable to his own ears (not to our ears) like opening number lock with 10 digits.

ARR is slow but he makes more money in just one movie than IR and other MDs make in 20 movies. So he can afford to be slow as long as directors and producers can wait at his doorsteps...
Naanum IR fan than. But I like ARR's music too. Lagaan-kku avar award vaangi irukkar. Hindi field-la sathikkira ore tamil MD, ARR than. Adarkkaga naama ellam santhoshappadanum. Ithana naala, avanga (bombay MDs) dolakka thattikkondu, ore tune-i pottukkondu athuthan music endru ellorayum eamathikkondirundargal. Ippo, ARR poi athana perayum oram katti irukkar. Today he is number 1 in both hindi and tamil. That's the fact, accept it or not. There many be two different openions about his music but as of today, ARR rules....
IR is genuis - enbathil yarukkume sandhegam illa (ARR-fans utpada). Anyone who knows music and who appreciate good music cannot deny that.
We have been fighting ever since ARR entered into TFM. Nothing has changed.. Etharkkaga innum IR-ARR fight-i continue seidhu konde rukkireergal?.

I am always a big fan of IR. I will always be one. No matter how many MDs come and go. But i miss certain aspects in good films. Mainly BGM. That's why i criticize. But some people take it personally and attack me.All the songs these days sound the same. People are running out of tunes. Most importantly the movies are very crappy. Other day i saw one junk movie named Thamizhan. Music was awful. I guess the MD was imman. Even though Maniratnam picked up a fight with IR, i sincerely feel IR would have given better BGM to his movies. As a true music fan forget about IR fan, i miss those wonderful BGMs.
Kannathil Muthamittal would have made far better impact if only the BGM were little good. I don't remember any of his movie after Roja. Iruvar, Thiruda Thiruda, Alai Payuthe, Uyire, Bombay(somewhat ok), Kannathil Muthamittal. I sincerely hope all the MDs improve their creativity instead of focussing on commercial aspects alone like Deva. Mala Mala was in top 10 of every programme last year. God where is our music taste going? You may call me i am still in the "Nilave mugam kattu enai parthu" era. I have all the latest pop collection, all the latest soundtracks like Mouline Rouge, Beautiufl mind, Lord of the rings, Harry potter etc. That's why i urge our MDs not to imitate their songs. He is a tamilian. I am glad for that. But that doesn't mean he has done everything right. He has so much room to improve. I miss 80s movies and music. 80s gave us the best movies and best music. So i wish 2000s become as memorable as that. But it is a distant dream looking at the trend of movie making.

JJ: If IR can bury his ego and eat humble pie, then he could contract for directing the BGMs for movies for which ARR is the "songs MD". Now, that will be a very good combination. Frankly, what ever IR fans (and that includes your's truly) say, IR has lost it in terms of giving "hits". ARR owns the market now and IR's success will lie in accepting it and yet create within that paradigm.

rajaG,
Did you get a chance to read Panju Arunachalam's interview in Kumudham? He had mentioned no movie would be a flop, provided some twists and turns are taken care during the direction of the movie. He quoted the example of Aalavandhan - he mentioned that the movie could have run for 50weeks if the director had made us sympathize with Nandu's fate.
I don't think songs are any different. But what this may mean is that to 'twist and turn' a song such that it becomes a commercial hit would make it lose it's original purpose - to make it fit with the story line. I think all the hits of IR were despite this fact, that he doesn't try to make the song a hit, but only cares to fit it with the story and screenplay. I honestly think that he doesn't care if the song becomes a hit or not.
Regarding your first statement, I would really not want him to do that. It may be okay on an experimental basis, just to have some fun. But to do it full time just to make money and be a commercially successful again - I don't think he needs it anymore. Moreover, can you think what would happen in such a scenario - all marketing would be done with ARR's name and no doubt the combination will definitely prove successful, but his name will be buried deep down with respect to credits. I don't think he deserves that as a creator. I think he is more interested in reaching the global audience now - this again is not definitely not make money, but to 'spread his wings' if that is a fair statement. It would have been wonderful if either Heyram or Lajja had been big commercial hits. I now feel that this was why he accepted to do the BGM for Lajja, despite AM being the MD and despite his policy.
The bottomline is that I would be one among many people who would be really happy to see his songs top the chart again, but would definitely not want him to score for giving a 'hit'. I am perfectly happy with what he is doing now.

That is not going to happen since no one can wipe him out from the scene. Even ARR cannot do that. Ego is a very powerful thing. If you fall flat, the same ego will help you to get back on your feet. I wish he remains as the same person who media often criticized, and hopefully that will help him where he wants to go now.

"I think all the hits of IR were despite this fact, that he doesn't try to make the song a hit, but only cares to fit it with the story and screenplay. I honestly think that he doesn't care if the song becomes a hit or not.
" - Hit the nail on the head. He tried to fit to the story. After fitting it he effectively uses the theme music throughout the movie. For example in Mouna Raagam Karthik-Revathy meeting had wonderful BGM. Even that BGM he split into two. One when they are not happy Other when they are happy. He really put so much effort into thinking before even starting his work. Otherwise he couldn't have come out with this masterpiece. Another example is in Salangai Oli. Especially when Jayapradha and Kamal meet, there would be flute going in the background. One scene was so touching. When Kamal was flipping through the invitation not knowing his name would be there. Once he sees his name there, the acting, the BGM, Jayaprada's face brings out a wonderful romantic scene. IR used KJY for his carnatic songs effectively. Those songs are missing. Nothing has dramatically changed in the last few years except the technology. His songs will always be remembered. That itself is a tribute to him.

ARR is the only film composer right now worth mentioning. so the national award which is not worth mentioning is going to an art these day not worth mentioning.

Is that the original MPR of the beginning days? ;--)
ARR is the slowest composer because he has to spend time listening to IR compositions and to come out of that and compose your own stuff is out of question. so he needs another several days to catch up on today's music and sounds in the rest of the world. by then, our man will have one song ready in 6 months. But, whatever said, I still like that Injurango Injurango song - the one that I feel he can take even 10 years if he came up with one song like that! but, alas we have to keep fingers crossed. bope baba has one song like that. then we can forgive the bombay dreams ;--) enna cholrey neenga?

Another reason my research reveals: since ARR is the best composer for nursery rhymes he also strictly follows the hare-tortoise moral lesson. slow and steady wins the race. way to go ARR, slow and very slow, take it easy paaalicy

peeps!!! I am more an ARR hater than an IR fan!! I honestly like all good music. I liked Minnale songs. I liked 12B BGM. It is just that ARR keeps on recycling the same thing with slight alteration. Our HCARR fans tries to interpret his craps!! That is the funniest thing. ARR doesn't deserve any of this praise as he is just an music scorer for Ads. who knows how to please the audience with "copied" pop tunes. His music has never helped any movies.
