Transcendental Music in

I think IR is pioneering TM for music in India. Two songs of Sambhu (Kalau Choosinadi & Dosedu Mallelu confirmed that IR is now taking us to the "space sense" time zone of music. This i think is after new age (IR's exemplified new age music by his India 24 hours, now beyond that into space age sounds and feel.

IR' earliest touch of that feel is in songs like - Alli Sundaravalli Sollu Laali; Thathi Thathi Thavidum Thagna Killi Nee Thaane. Really Transcendental feeling about those 2 songs, something parallel to the earthly "evocative timeless (ET ;--)" songs like O Vasantha Raja; or, Vezhambal Kezhum (Olangal) or Sangathil Padath Kavithai etc..

In Western music, only one band successfully brought out that feel - Depeche Mode in their albums "Violator" & the album containing songs Like Master & Servant etc... To some extent Pet Shop Boys brought it out too. That is it.

It all confirms that IR is transcending earthly feelings & heavenly feelings to space-time feel ;;---) But, let me tell you - Karthik Raaja is full of it and he is going to shake the world with those feels. Those of you understand this abstract and pseudo intellectual please talk about how u feel ;--)

  Are you talking of the kind of music
  Enya does which is called New World music. It has a similar feel. Some of Sandeep chowta's songs have this kind of feel (ninne pelladatha (kannullo nee roopame.. ), prema katha (devudu karunisthadani..., prema sangathi..) in telugu ) Maybe we have to wait for some IR's songs in this direction and see how he crafts them.

  Enya' is New Age, still not there at the Depeche Mode stuff I mentioned. I have not Chowta's songs. Best examples of IR' "TM" sounds would be the second interlude of O Baby Baby song or the same in Manam Pona song in Kadhal Rojave - very very strange and masterpieces. But, hear the Kalelo song - is simple and definitely a new flower that will be the feel we can expect from IR more and more in the future.

  I think this was written by arulaRacan in raajangahm. It is a higly inspired expression of IR' genius. It is absolutely what I think of IR' transcending idioms and ideas. In addition, this thread there is something metaphysical element in the music beyond new age in a parallel universe of sublime, but drawing one to the sense that IR is now exploring how the sounds or moods sound if you are in the landscape of deep space - it is not the folk sounds, it is not the urbane, it is of deep space.

  I could feel that oh baby song was not an ordinary song the first time I heard it. I evokes a sense of deep nostalgia which moved my senses to an almost spritual plane. Especially the second interlude, HAUNTING is the appropriate word for it. I would suggest Varna vrindavanam from Kaliyoonjal as another such song.
  
  A great work of art might takes years to finish. IR has been toying with the conscious moods of people for years (and even his I think) and is creating music which touches the subconscious senses and leaves an everlasting nostalgic feeling. These songs give that vague far away feeling. TREMENDOUS!

  Jag, Vj; right on dot. Isn't the piece stellar, monumental, the feeling you get is sublime. Some more 90s songs have that type of orinetation in IR's moods. I sometimes wonder if KR is influencing it, because many of his songs have that kind of feel underlying.

  Kiran, the reveiwer is very accurate about the songs. Kalalo Is a Gem of a song. Me talking about the TM part, check out especially the postlude of that song. It is very futuristic feeling.
  
  Definitely, in IR music and gentle feelings are total submersed to an extent a churn like Symphony or some extraordinary inspired moment may bring out more and more awesome stuff that can take mankind a 1000 years to comprehend! It is a possibility, because now Music as a whole and by itself is indistingushable from entity that is IR. As i see it, the whole world is being prepared, first by Ravi Sankar, L Subramanian, Zakir Hussain, Rahman, Hindi songs for the eventual acceptance of the ultimate!!!!!

  People like Beethovan, Bach and so on had used notational convenience to express their feelings. They had expressed themselves so well that people were able to enjoy those musical pieces ages after they were made. This holds perfectly for IR's music with the only difference that some of those expressions are transferred onto film songs and reach us faster. But make no mistake, people need ample time ( and probably knowledge, but a more sensitive listener with emotions will not need even such knowledge) to comprehend a Bach or a Beethovan, they will also need ample time to comprehend IR even though they can enjoy the outwardly charm of those songs.
  
  I had felt that faraway feeling in some 80's songs too, melody is a very understatement to some songs. Let me know your opinion on these gems:
  
  1. Orakalai godaavari..from Abhilasha (telugu)
  2. Vayyari godaramma.. from Premichu Pelladu (telugu)
  3. Priyatama (duet version) ..Priyatama (telugu)
  4. Ivvu Ivvu..from Prema (telugu) watch out for the first interlude if you have CD its better.
  5. Manasu Palike... from Swati Mutyam (telugu)
  especially the choral humming.
  
  
  Kiran is quite a knowledgeable person. There was a section called Ilaiyaraaja's cornor for a long time which had some amazing reviews (by Kiran and Pardhoo) and emphasised the many moods of Raja's songs. I wonder if they will revive it, as I believe they have taken it off due to space restrictions.
