What Makes AR Rahman Special - Revised

Due to the hijacking of the thread by ARR detractors, a lot of useful discussions were sent to old responses. The purpose of this thread is to remove all extraneous postings of the original thread and stick to the topic. I sincerely hope that this thread will be allowed to continue without unnecessary comments.
All ARR detractors are kindly requested NOT To post in this thread.


What makes AR Rahman really special? Why does his music cause so much excitement and flurry? What is the difference that AR Rahman offers that no one else offers.
From his first movie Roja, ARR has caused a HUGE impact on listeners of popular Tamil songs.
Since then each of his movie and songs are closely inspected, loved, tasted and exalted.

Let us take his maiden song, Chinna chinna aasai. What sets this song apart from the 100s of songs of this genre?

Is it the new voice? Is is the impeccable music arrangement? Is it the haunting melody? Or is it just simply oozing of class?

  Perhaps, another aspect that makes A.R.Rahman special is the richness and variety in his music. Not only has he explored various streams of music,but has reached the zenith of every field.His music represents every shade and hue of India and even beyond.

  i feel ur a useless person running out of senses ,u need 2 be taken 2 a mental hospital fer ur hears and heads 2 be cleaned...hehe the funnisest part is u calling IR a wonderful MD.plz fer heavens sake dont..he can only s*** ur .... or the above guys who called him by bad words......i feel they were born properly nyway leeav that....can u name 1 MD inspired by IR'S music..but i can name a 1000 ppl who r inspired with ARR.(ismail darbar,harris jaayaraj,rameshvinayagam,sandeep chowta,shankar-ehsan-loy,imaan,even ilayarajas own son karthik raja..list goes on and on and on......so plz dont post some nonesense ,coz we all know u IR fans r of ALL FATT NO SHI* type....hehe ,dont start shitting now,...coz u cant ...:))

  Ismail Darbar has said in an interview that he was turned out by bhansali coz' he sounded very ARRish...check out dhadkan.com for more info.....All MDs nowadays r inspired by ARR...very few hav the guts to admit that. i should add that ismail Darbar tries to be original......Nimbooda song resemples thillana (muthu) song.....hear n decide.....

  ismail darbar himself has said,he liked music and loved just coz of a man called ARR..and its the finest he has ever heard..i guess he got an award for 'hum dil de chuke sanam'...in that function he said...arr was the one who deserved the award.......coz he felt when arr is there ,he desrves it......that his music is the best in indian film industry......all praise 2 god!!!!

  His grasp of technology is a key reason for his success. He works well within his limitations.
  He has the knack of knowing the pulse of fans.
  Even though his songs are not very long lasting he could make short impacts. Of late he seems to be running out of ideas. He doesn't seem to thrive on his success. Till date Roja is his best movie. That explains that he has not made great strides. His significant movies are Roja, Pudhiya Mugam (2 songs), Gentleman (2 songs), Bombay (2 songs) Mudhalvan(1 song).. well i can't think beyond this. I was hooked on to his music when Roja was released. But his songs follow a standard pattern. His melodies are mostly like,
  singer would sing in a low husky voice. .example, vellai mazhai, ennavale, netru illadha, nila kaigiradhu, uyire uyire, thendrale thendrale, oh vennila, margazhi poove, thoda thoda...
  They all sound similar. There are no ground breaking songs. Nowadays so many people score rythm based songs. It is difficult to conclusively say which is ARR songs, which is HJ songs, which is Bharadwaj songs.. They all sound the same. Keyboards kill your imagination. It is like window shopping. You don't go to shop without deciding what to buy. You just see things and buy it. Using keyboards you try out different things. Sometimes accidentally we get some catchy tunes without too much thinking. We just take them and use it. But it certainly needs lot of time infront of keyboard. People like ARR get that. But People like HJ and others don't get that. They have to work on a time frame. Once ARR gets pressurized into delivering faster he will have a tough time. I also like his songs. But i am not happy with his progress. His success is purely based on his marketing skills most certainly not on his musical skills, as he is found wanting badly when it comes to scoring background music for movies. In Mudhalvan tried IR technique for BGM. But he couldn't quite manage it deftly. Bombay theme music is a decent tune but nothing extraordinary. Roja is a complete movie for ARR in every respect. Not a single movie of ARR reached that standard after that. Reason is he is trying to play to the crowd instead of focussing on giving out quality music.

  Who r these people using obscene language in a public discussion forum. stick to discussion guys, dont show ur prowess of tamil just by spitting bad words. I am an occassional visitor to this site, reading the various discussions, it is 1. annoying 2.disgusting 3. makes a tamilan feel not so proud.   There was an interview with ARR on Ktv on Sunday 8'o'clock. It was conducted by Sowmya(who's also the host for Namma Neram on SunTV). She lacked depth and came up with clichetic questions!!
  
  however ARR was cool and answered to the point. Didnt give any clues about his future ventures. Questions were simple and predictable - abt Bombay Dreams, his venturing into Hindi, abt Michael, etc.
  
  Guess a more astute interviewer would have made it insightful
