This topic sparked of with Ramki's comments on the thread "Hits of KVM" He had mentioned a song called Thaillamal naanillai which made me to initiate this topic :) Thanks to Thambi Ramki.

Another song that disturbs me a lot is
Ammavum neeye, Appavum neeye, anbudane aadharikkum deivammum neeye from Kalathur Kannamma. Indha paadal previous paattukku konjam oppositeaaga irukkum, andha paadalil kadavul dhaan amma endru solluvaar Rajni, indha paadalil amma dhaan kadavul endru solluvar Kamal. in one of the music nites in us, gangai amaran was in tears when he sang the song amma enrazhaikatha uyirillaye, he said before singing the song, "when i sing the song, i always used to remember my mother, similarly, everybody remember ur mother. Only a mother knows what is good for their child, if my mother had not encouraged us, we wud not have been here now"

The first song that comes to my mind as it brings tears to my eyes is

I don't remember the whole lyrics for this song but remember the song as being very "urukkamaana, porul-pothintha" song and sung greatly by my favorite TMS.

IR has given another 'Amma' song in the movie 'Pudhupatti Ponnuthaayi' which goes as 'Urugi kidakkum parai manathil ... ' which has lines
such as 'Amma enum oru varthayil edho oru isai ketkudhu'. Though the song is a pathos type still it is very good. I think it is in Subhapantuvarali ragam.

Ammammamma vandadu ingu singa kutti from Per sollum pillai has a stanza that goes like

Davani kattiyirunda enga annai innum chinna ponnudan.,
Thalai dan muunalla narai acchu aduvum ammadi azhagu acchu,
...

where the songwriter is trying to convey that no matter how old a mother gets she is always beautiful. This in a way is in direct contrast to what is generally the case, the mother always thinks her child is beautiful no matter what.

Bhaskar, Ammayenru azhaikada , ennaiyum migavum "disturb" seida paadal. Although disturb is not the right word, I really like the way you used it and so I am also using it.

There's another song that goes like this ..

'Amma undan kai valaiyai aaga maattenaa..

This is a beautiful song sung by Vani Jayaram . I think the music is by MB Srinivasan. I dont remeber the film - a sundry film stg CHO, Menaka and a whole lot of others. This song used to be a regular in MBS's serndisai. Since this came in a film also, I think it qualifies as TFM. Does anyone know the name of the film/ complete lyrics. I remember being misty eyed after listening to this song.

I searched thru my collection and listened to this song while I read your lyrics. It is really a great song IR, he has sung with deep emotions from his heart which is visible in his voice.
