hi tfm friends!
can we tamilians be proud of ARR? he does not accept himself as a tamilian. in many interviews he refutes his tamilian identity. he would rather think of himself as an indian. that's nice. stil.... one may be talented but his folk cannot be proud of him if he does not think he belongs to them!

I dot see the point of this topic. What is wrong in ARR potraying as an INDIAN? Only if all Indians think that they are INDIANS, INDIA can be a very strong and powerful NATION.
I suppose if he says he is a Tamilian-then you might go on to are what cast he is!!!!!!.
SO mahabs its is very difficult to satisfy fellows like you.

Friends,
IMHO, TFM page should not even allow stupid topics like this. Grow up guys...be happy that in a land of lunatics and fanatics, some one has the guts to say that he prefers to be proud as an Indian than a Tamilian.
Thamizhchelvan (btw..I had no part in having this name!)

Mr.Thamizhchelvan
i am not a tamil fanatic. i just pointed out the hypocrisy of ARR. if he wants to be accepted by north indians, he says he is an indian first. how long it will take him to say that he a human being than an indian. i feel, he would say that to westerners, if need arises.
it is not only him. many people (talented or otherwise) are like that.
i also like his songs. but, i will not be proud of him!
but, i will say that IR is a great tamilian and INDIAN!

Tamizchelvan,
I think mahabs point is little valid. whenever other language people talk about IR, Deva, KVM and MSV (eventhough he is malayalee), they can understand the Tamil identity. It doesn't mean they are not popular. Even Vidya Sagar is respected well in Kerala with his Tamil Identity. But ARR lost his Tamil Identity for Indian Identity. One way that is good. But atleast inside Tamil Nadu, he should expose his Tamil Identity. Nowadays he started talking in English. but the pitiest part is that I am also ARR fan.
In one of the recent program of MSV with Lioni, MSV was talking and proud about Tamil. He was very proud of being Tamilian.

"some one has the guts to say that he prefers to be proud as an Indian than a Tamilian" hmm..IMHO Tamilian ..means Indian. Whats' India if you take away the constituent parts ? I think we should not succumb to the pressure of proving our patriotism by seeking to deny our cultural identity. Initially, northern politicians wanted us to learn Hindi and now there is indirect pressure to understate our identity. BTW, thamizhchelvan you have a nice name..you probably have not realised how much intellectual contribution has gone into building a language..your parents obviously consider you an equally good thing on which they can shower their affection and attention..Growing up is understanding your parents' intention.

G.Raghavan & yaaro
I listened to an interview by MSV. It might still be available in musiccurry archives. MSV says that his family was somewhere in TN when his dad died. So he and mom were forced to move to Cannanore (Kerala) where his uncle was working.

kiru,
"Whats' India if you take away the constituent parts ? "
I agree with you.Going further with your logic, what is a state if you take away the districts?
What's a district if you take away the cities and villages?
What's a village without a street?
What's a street without your house?
So if someone asks George Bush what he is he shouldn't answer "I'm an American".His answer should be "I'm 1600 Pennsylvania Ave".This makes more sense.-)

'the Lincon bedroom', 1600 Pennsylvania Ave

My opinions have nothing to do with the dirty politics in TN. India as an identity relies largely on the culture that evolved in Tamil Nadu/South India. You can make jokes about this. But I think this is a serious issue. We should probably take this topic to the Forum.
