"so you mean ARR fans who have stopped posting-like trend who has completely gone off from the scene and with whom I confused you in one of our earlier arguments(which you disproved by pulling out his location based on IP address)-have nothing more to look forward? I know you cannot answer for them-but I am just curious!:-)"

Oldtimer,
This is what Yaroo said in another thread after watching BD...
Finally, back from london after watching BD.here are my obs:
The show was full today-I guess there must have been atleast 500 people-of which whites would have been around 50-75.extensive asian crowd, old thetre, shouts of ''anitha?''other indian names ,that ye olde atmosphere reminded me exactly like I was watching an hindi film in madras theater!
did I like it-yes.will I see it again?-No.
The thing is ,after advent of movies ,the fan base for theaterical movies is fast disappearing. This, musical, unlike other previous musicals from ALW will not be having repeat audience.
I think all of you must be familiar with the story-how a poor boy from slums makes it big in bad world of hindi films.
regarding music-ARR has reused his film songs extensively.
The there are 19 nos-many repeated again and again-so the no of actual songs will be around 8.
-the bombay awakens music sort of forms the theme music which gets repeated in all emotionals-happy or sad(sort of like then paandi..)This is a new no.
There is a vigorous dappanguthu equivalent no which is the hero intro-typical hindi no from ARR.
One song which has been extensively used is Ishq bina from taal.
Other songs which have been used from films-
Ooh lalala(imgine maana marathu in english!)
Rangeela re
shakalaka baby(which is promoted as the main catchy no)
chaiya chaiya
the songs which come for the ganesh festival, the qawali nos are short ones. There is another no called salam bombay which reminds me strongly of anotherARR no which I cannot just place.
There are a few nos which are slow where the hero
and the heroine are mooning about each other-these are,IMO,nonspecific and do not stand out.
He has used chorals very extensively.
Not much scope or use of back ground music.
Good production values, good settings are other good points.
Will it run long term-only time will tell.I seriously doubt it for the few reasons which had been mentioned in 'nightmares 'thread. One is the subject matter-so non -white.so the repeat value from whites is almost going to be nil.
Asian crowd-they may not be willing for a second seeing when the first round itself will set back a family by 100-150 pounds.
I was sitting next to a young white chap-
he said that he found music good.
(he had paid 20 pounds for parking!)wait till 19 th june for your verdict-that is when the album is released!

I also said-
he has made a good job in adapting these songs to theatre medium
shakalaka sounds quite nice in english.
hmm-I dont know what will satisfy oldtimer.may be-I have never seen a musical like this?
which is true because ,this is the first musical I have seen.:-)

Daily mail calls ARR asian mozart-could that be because that is what the press handout says? We,who have been listening to his music for the past 10 years, never called him that.mozart must be really turning over in his grave!
From: yaaro (@ 195.93.48.156) on: Fri Jun 21 05:19:17 EDT 2002
I ,for one, have not been praying-I can tell this for sure.but since all of you have assumed, well, keep it that way.I have said only good things about his music in BD.may be I am just pretending that I like it isnt it?
look at the foll facts-
the major nos in the show were all recycled.(incidentally, chaiya chaiya is my all time ARR favorite no)
the non cycled nos are not for foreign ears(ganesh chathurthi no,qawalli, the first song in the bombay slums)-give me a break if you think these chaps will be listening to these songs in their car stereos.
the ballads,as mentioned by a reviewer (and me) are all nonspecific-they have heard a hundred like them.as the reviewer put it,it looks as if it could have been composed by webber himself.
ALW has been bombarding the asian crowds here enticing them to come with chat shows in asian radio channels.BBC seems to be almost acting like his PRO.the big magazines like times, independent have all given it a thumbs down-that is going to have a major influence.
The crowd that reads tabloids-they are not the one which go for these musicals.
Dont go by the opening night response from the so called celebrities-they are all his cronies who will come, give him an ovation and go back saying how silly Andrew is if he thought an indian show was what the west end needed now.If he like ARR so much he could have brought all his CD's and saved himself somewhere to the tune of 4 million pounds!
As i say,it is early days-but if given a choice for a family outing in west end ,english will go for something like Chitty C Bang B-this itself will put a family back by a minimum of 100 pounds.
so ARR fan,I assume you are not in UK-otherwise you would have seen it by now. These are the realities which may be hard to accept-but that is what life is all about isnt it?
From: yaaro (@ 195.93.48.156) on: Fri Jun 21 05:22:48 EDT 2002
Dont feel sorry for ALW though-he is worth more than 300-400 million pounds-imagine him asking hindujas supporting the venture.he is poorer in his pocket-but richer in experience.
From: yaaro (@ 195.93.33.181) on: Wed Jun 26 09:32:06 EDT 2002
shows how little ALWs exposure to good music is-if he thinks ARR is the greatest composer!
i can search more here as you have uttered more,
differnce between you and jj is
-- you are playing the "good boy" act along with arr hater thats all, jj is straight forward hater he is better than you.

yaroo, till date i have not seen anything good from you on bombay dreams. can you provide links here where you have said just few good words on BD?, I dont think so. You have been cribing and only cribing from the day one. You took pains to see the show just to find fault.
nothing but to find fault. This is the fact,
you have never said BD is nice achivements etc, Might be somewhere in the corner of this page you might have uttered few words but often you have always hada left hand applause to ARR, basically you do that to cover yourself. ...
I rest my case. good bye.

START DIGRESSION....
oldTimer - looks like u took some pain in going thro the archives to get only the *negetive* stuff of whatever Yaaro has said..... hmm... just like what u say "You took pains to see the show just to find fault", looks like you are taking the same pain to see *only* the fault in what yaaro has said....
iam not going to go thro archives or anything..... but iam sure about one thing, whatever -ve stuffs yaaro would have said, he did say more +ve stuffs about BD after he had seen the show.....
yaaro, looks like being an IR fan means, we should always say BAD only about ARR..... if at anytime u say something good, then immediately some *oldies* jump out and say u play a "GOOD BOY" act..... i think its good to be "BAD BOYS" in the eyes of some, isnt it :-)....
END DIGRESSION....

oldtimer-
some of the above statements are facts-some are opinions.the trouble is you are confusing one with another.
will you again get into your head ,most of what I have said has been said by the reviwers as well?I wrote my postings before the reviews came out-so do you think those reviewers are also out to get ARR?
remember this-BD becoming a hit or a failure is least of my concerns-I have other worries in my life and better music to listen to.I have been giving my opinions based on my life in UK over the past 4 years. If you dont think the above opinions are correct, you have 2 choices-come to UK to watch the show-or work in UK for sometime.

yaaro:
I did go back to the old responses and I feel that U were genuine on your remarks. Okay, a word of praise from an HCIRF about ARR is once in a blue moon kind of stuff. I don't think we should grill you much and get more verdicts from you. See, one part of oldtimers psycho analysis seems to relevant. In some corner of your heart you went to find fault on the BD's show, but you were also magnanimus enough to say that ARR's stuff was good on that.
Now as a HCARRF myself, I will give a hard look at any good IR stuff and will filter it hard before accepting it. In that case, I think you have done a nice job. Okay, leave that...You saw the first show, they would have improved by now and songs have also cought up with masses. What do you say now...do you still vehemently say that BD is fit to fail.
See, I accused you before, but being an ARR fan I have the habit of looking the other side too...so I feel that you stand cleared here.
