Song comparison software?

Hi Guys,
i was just wondering, if it would be possible to develop a software which will be able to compare music of 2 different songs, by tempo, beat, rhythm, pattern etc?

It will be very useful, as for now, we compare from what we heard. With this software everything will be analysed and no more arguements will errupt. Rite?

So, anyone with some knowledge on this, I myself is a software developer, so with someone's vast knowledge in Music programming, we might be able to achieve something....

anyone interested?

  Paran: In one of the IITs there was an effort to develop software to identify ragas. I think it was IIT-M. I came to know of this from an IIT student who came here for his Ph.D. He was a violinist. Unfortunately I lost track of him. You might want to ask your friends from IITs. It is possible to do what you want, just as we do speech recognition. TFM fans in universities might be interested.
