  My fav. singers are SPB and Chitra - SPB for his superb voice modulation, great voice and Chitra for her sweet voice. My favourite Chitra song is "kuzhaloodhum kannanukku" and my favourite SPB song - onna, renda - adhanaala all songs of SPB are my favourite songs.

  OK, appadinaa I should say Unnimenon & Swarnalatha. But I like Charan in Theepangal pesum and Sandhya in Poongkodiyin punnagai. Yugendran sings well in KT too. (if you didn't know, they are the vaarisugal of SPBala, P. Suseela and M. Vasu.)

  Ok referring to your choice of singers I don't really thing that Unnimenon has sung so many songs that I am aware of any good ones from him. Only song I remember him in is from Roja.
  
  Swarnalatha is of course an excellent singer and some of her gems that I love are 'malayil yaaro' and 'o ho poonkuyilae' and so on. She's got lots of talent but I think that Tamil MD's are giving her crappy songs after 'mukkaala mukkabula'. It's stupid how these MD's call some singers for a typical kind of song when they know that these singers are capable of doing well in any songs given to them. I think this is one thing that the whole industry has a mutual understanding over. So pathetic...
  
  Other than that Nov sir, I really don't have much to say about the younger lot of singers. They seem to be more interested in being known then in giving quality stuff and working hard. To be truthful, I think that SJ, SPB, IR, ARR, KSC, KJY, MSV, and the other lot of TFM's legends attained the fame they got through hard work. Other things came second choice. But nowadays, they talk more then they act, if you know what I mean. That may be is why the industry is going down in terms of quality.

  I don't agree with plenty of things that you have said in your last posting, but if I refute then it will became major digression.
  
  If the choice is between UnniK, UnniM, HH, etc, then my vote wouuld go for UnniM. Just listen to his Poongkaatriley un swaasaththai in Uyirey.
  
  Please do not mention IR and
  
  ARR is the same breath or paragraph. We don't want that war here. :-))
  
  And one last thing. I violently protest to your statement that the quality of music is deteriorating. Now, who is the younger one? :-))))

  My Fav singer (all languages) - KJY - great voice & singing. If exclusive TFM - SPB, SPB, SPB!!!
  
  I also agree JC is quite special ( please compare the JC & PS versions of Rasathi onne; PS is dismal when she sings `Kaanatha nenju' while JC excels)
  
  My fav female singer - SJ, SJ, SJ!!! (KSC comes very close though thanks to her lovely malayalam numbers)

  I can only take it as your taste to call better singing dismal :))! I used to feel otherwise about 'Raasaathi Unna'! I strongly feel PS' expression in that song (though she sings happy and JC sings pathos!) far excels JC's!

  Agreed, Karthi! It's just a question of taste! It is just that I love the expression of `Kaanadha' by JC - which is obviously from the heart - better! (Why, I even tried singing that word 1000 times aloud, but it never sounded even 10% as emotional!!!)

  It is sad that they have not been fully utilised, especially the former. That has been the loss for Tamil Film Music. Even today, the mellifluos voice of PB Srinivos evokes passion, pathos and romance.

  check latest kumudam on the net for an interview with sujatha. some interesting questions. she has said that singing for IR is the toughest job. she has also said that IR is like her teacher while ARR is like a friend.
  
  BTW, kumudam in its review of nilave mugam kaatu has said that IR's music in that film is not impressive.

  MGS for the song "Pon Veliyil" from Yathra Mozhi. Chitra too.
  
  If I like UK for one song, it is "Rajanodu Rani" from Sathi Leelavathi.
  
  SPB for all his earlier songs.
  
  HAve you observed an aspect in his pronunciation?
  He sings any word ending with "kum" as "kyum". Been in the industry for 25 years, and still hasn't bothered about that!!
