Bharat Rathna for Lata Mangeshakar

On a positive note a great achievement and a commendable recognition for her service. But are we going overboard.
There have been a great many artists from TFM and TF who have'nt received even a Padma shri.
Why are'nt we even protesting this? Last year Ismail Durbar(Hope I got his name right) got a national award for Hum Dil De....! . We have been mere bystanders in this process. We can pour a lot of rhetoric but all this will be a waste if we do'nt have our voices heard.
Should we act now? Maybe a representation or some kind of demonstration to show our protest.
Every conceivable institution in India has been compromised for political gains.
Or is it just that we guys do'nt have the spine!

  Two things are very clear :
  1. The contention is that there are more talented people (Sivaji, IR...) who are still not on the awards list. To get an award , apart from merit some other factors like region, language, influence etc. play a major part...
  
  2. Definitely the impact that TFM has made in Indian music has not been appropriately recognised. Noone can deny that most of the central govt. awards biased towards North India.
  
  Digression : TN govt. is not less worse. Even when Central govt. recognised Sethu as the best movie last year... here Padayappa was honoured for votes !! Shame... what these politicians are doing to art ...

  Answer your consciecne! Have you given the correct list? Have you answered NChari correctly?
  Your posting shows 150 names with majority singing in films even before IR used, they cant be called as 'introduced'(AL Raghavan, TLMaharajan etc).
  "!Tamil Names" like Ajay chakrabarthy, Anupama, Bhupendra etc.., many names like Deepan, TKS Kalaivanan, Soolamangalam murali etc., who had sung only single digits, and a more and more unknown names (!probably Chorus/ Bhajan groups) were posted, along with ration card list or voters list.

  I think the list provides singers introduced by IR. Yes some of the singers were singing already. I would say one thing. Before NChari asked the question did he ask himself how many Tamil singers ARR introduced? Pls don't play one sided game. I saw lots of fun postings before. Now-a-days I see lots of third rated mud-slinging postings.

  Why should we take IR/ARR fight away from this thread? No use reading the Title of the thread because "Bharat Rathna for Lata Mangeshakar" is not a TFM subject at all. It should have gone to the forumhub!!!

  Congrats to Lataji, Lalgudi, Dr.L.Subramaniam,Dr.Bhanumathi Ramakrishna, who are musicians too. Film Music industry was fortunate those days to see KJ Yesudas and his mighty senior Sirkazhi Dr.Govindarajan awarded with a Padmashri (Sirkazhi got it in 80s when compared to KJ Yesudas who got it when Narayana Menon was in power). Now, Ilayaraja, Kunnakudi are all aspiring for Padma awards!
  Govt. is not blind and deaf always. There are protocols which decides things apart from film popularity, for these awards.
  Why this haste! Great senior men in various fields are still there without getting it. Awards doesnt assess ones greatness in his profession. Let things happen when it should and Please discuss only Lataji in this forum.
