Let us try to look at the final result. What is the impact IR has as a Lyrics writer. If he cannot do so well, when there are other Lyrics writer whose job is only doing, why he has to compete with them. Why not just settle down with their lyrics and produce good music.
What is your opinion?

As to the theme of this thread. . .it reminds me of what was said about Aristotle's color theory. People accepted it because of the embarassing amount of time he spent on it, not to mention the man's intellectual stature. But everyone secretly wished that he returned to his domain--philosophy. Or more topically, let's take what was said of SPB's acting, "Every moment he acts is a moment he's not singing".
Of course this subject was explored before in "Ilayaraja the lyric writter" which rests in the archives, spelling mistake intact.

There was a song in Rajasthan - which sounded really horrible to listen in the cassette. The lyrics were written by IR. But the song did fit with the situation in the movie (sung by Vadivelu).
Udhaya, I tried searching the archives for that thread - I couldn't find it.

guys..do you all know about poomani movie stared by murali prakashraj n deivayani??palani barathi was its lyricist....but even PBarathi said once in an inteview that IR is a great lyricist after an incident during that movie,,,,
remember the song>>tolmele tolmele poomale poomale
after IR set the tune for the song..Pbarathi began to pen the lyric,,but he just couldnt fit his wordings tolmele and poomale into the tune...later he asked for IR to change hos tune to fit his words....but instead IR looked the lyrics n said to Pbarathi to use his favourite words twice>>>>so it came out as tolmele tolmel poomale poomale...
isnt that great??!!!what i'm trying to say is..the genius's art of thinking..his fluency in lyrics.:)

"toiletmele toiletmele irukkale irukale"

I guess who ever wrote that had to get it form the song.(saying it twice)..So u again go back to the lyrisists for it..Funny that u use circular logic..ST

Haris
That is good question. If we take a road there are two opposite directions(synonomously can be said "Thisai")
The better way that lyrics can be written in the following way:
'pAdhai onru aana pOdhum, thisaigal vErammA..'
'unadhu Thisai vEru - enadhu Thisai vEramma..'
Who is the lyrics writer? Vairamuthu?

I think 'unathu paadhai veRu, enathu paadhai veRu' is perfectly allright ... muthal variyila 'paathai ondRu aanapothum'nnu solRathoda muraN 2vathu variyila varuthu - paathai ondRu, But dhisaikaL veRu, So both our paadhais are different !

To kozhappify more, in addition to NagaS explanation:
In the movie both raadha and mohan will be urugified for love. So the dhisai(urugification for love) is same. But raadha will be urugify for mohan whereas mohan for his deceased love ambika. That is why such muraNaana varigaL. AIMHO.

IR is a better lyrics writer than the one who wrote thus:
1. I have lost eyes my (Kannalene, enadh kannai netrodu kannavaillai)....
2. I have lost my heart( Ennavele, ennavele, endhan idyatthai tholaithu vitten)
3. The floweres are lost ( Snngeetha jaadhi mullai kaanavillai)
1. Little animal Little God ( Konjam Mirugam.. Konjam Kadavul)
2. Half God Half Animal ( Kadavul Paadhi Mirugam Paadhi)
What is so great in these "Kaanavillai " and "Half-half" songs? IR is difeinitely better.

'paathai onru thisaigall veru' - kupps explanation makes us understand the situation. just by listnening to the song it will certainly confuse. i was thinking about 'ring road'

thanks haris. i couldn't make head or tail out of the song. (writer) sujAthA once said that it's impossible for a sane person to write a sentence which will make absolutely no sense because our brain somehow finds some patterns and extracts a meaning. well... ;)

IMO, IR is a decent Lyrics Writer. Although he has used the 'maane', 'thene' words in many songs he wrote, still he is a decent Lyricist. His 'Nadodi Thendral' songs are indeed very good(He also wrote the story for that movie).
and of course 'Nila Adhu Vanathapola' was a good one too.
