Dear DF'ers...
I remember seeing a music video in Channel V and MTV a few months back, in chaste tamil. The credits read 'Bombay Jaishree and Unnikrishnan'. The label, if I remember right was 'Charsur Digital Workstation'. The song was 'ethanai kodi inbam vaithai iraiva' by Bharathiyar. The composition was excellent, a mod fusion a la Rahman. Being in Delhi, I havent been able to get any more information on ths album.
Can anybody down south lemme know about who scored the music for this album? Is it available in the south? Does it have only bharathiyar songs?

If it had been ARR, the promoters of the album and the press would have started to lavish praise even before its release. So I don't think it is by ARR.
On the contrary, if it is by ARR, I will be very happy that he has stopped depending on publicity and hype and started to beleive in himself.

Charsur did release an album of Bharathiyar songs sung by Bombay Jayshree w/ orchestration - overall, lacklustre. Her voice does not suit the songs chosen - e.g. akkini kunjOndru kandEn. If you don't mind orchestration get the Bharathiyar songs vol 2 by Bombay Sisters (Pyramid). W/out orchestration, the albums by Sowmya (Chinnanjiru KiliyE/AVM, Bharathiyar songs/Inreco) are good.
BTW, Bombay Jayshree's papanasam sivan songs album on Charsur is nice - the mood of the songs and her voice match perfectly. I believe one or more of the songs were featured in movies. There, I've tied the whole thread back to TFM:-)

kk,
IMO Bombay Jayshree should get a good Tamil tutor and learn to differentiate between na and Na, ra and Ra (MandRam, ThendRal, Kutram, Kottrai).

Sorry for the digression but I don't understand your posting properly. All the four words you gave as example have the same 'Ra'. Don't they? How do you think the pronounciation varies?

I was referring to the pronunciation of the above words. It's difficult to put it in English. I have created an image to explain the 'kolai':

You are right that it cannot be explained by typing in English. I looked at your URL. But I still fail to spot the difference in 'pronounciation'. I feel only the spellings are different. The pronounciation still remains the same. Isn't it so? Or have I been making a mistake myself in uttering these words, for the past 2 decades?
Anyway, I think I should shift these questions out of this thread. Is there a way I can contact you?

Since we are on pronounciation, can someone give me the exact lyrics to the original 'Alaipayuthe kanna' (the Oothukkadu version)? I have listened to several singers and each one has his/her own interpretation of the lyrics especially 'Thavithha manathai, Urukkai...). Please help.

Vannakum _/\_
I've just downloaded Bombay Jayshree singing "Varuvai Kanna" from www.coolgoose.com.
I think she sings beautifully. Her voice really moved me. Up to this day, tears stream down my face whenever I listen to this song. I don't understand Tamil but would like to know what the song means, just out of curiousity. She sings with so much bhava. Please help me someone.
Much Thanks,
South Africa
