Can u please help me in getting the lyrics of the song 'Mahan Gandhi Mahan' in the old film Nam Iruvar sung by MS Rajeswari and I think it is written by R Surdarsan

  Song from the film Naam Iruvar- 1947. AVM Productions. Music by R Sudarsanam.The song featured Kumari Kamala, and was sung by MS Rajeswari. (Madurai Sadagopan Rajeswari - she was 14 years old when she sang this song!)Kumari Kamala was then 13 years old.   In ‘The Hindu’, every Sunday, one gentleman by name Subramanyam used to write his ‘Malarum Ninaivugal’. Once, he had written that in his school days, he went on stage, participated in a ‘Bharathiyar Song’ competition, sang this song merrily and came back, thinking that every song in ‘Naam Iruvar’ is by Bharatiyar! No wonder, he didn’t get any prize and was even chided by his school teacher for this faux paus!

  I'm not sure about the lyricist. Don't feel that it was Koththamangalam Subbu, though. He was a 'Gemini' man, and would not have ventured out in 1947 to write for AVM. Sivan, perhaps,yes.
  I am more inclined to KP Kamatchisundaram, as he was an AVM regular those days. 'Un Kann unnai yemaatrinaal', 'Nandagopalanodu naan aaduveney'- Vaazhkai and 'Enna Ulagamada'-Or Iravu etc were the memorable outpourings of this talent lyricist.
  He is more known today for his 'Then unnum vandu'-Amaradeepam.

  OISG - by coincidence I was transferring a bunch of seerkazhi songs onto cd last weekend and came across the thangavelu number you mentioned. It starts dabbaa dabbaa dabbaa and goes on to list how things are going to rack and ruin including films songs which now have hindustani tunes. A few hindustani notes are played on the harmonium before this stanza begins.
  
  Hindi version's music was by C Ramchandra (Paigham). It would be interesting to find out why SVV got the tamil job, especially since vanji kottai vaaliban was a hit in tamil and a flop in hindi (music by CR for both versions) and besides, CR's career had almost vanished by 1960.

  "Panditha neruvai Pari koduthome " was by Kothamangalam.
  
  So i concluded that "Mahan Gandhi mahan" was by him as well.

  OISG- I don't know much about Miss.Malini, but this is what little I know about her:
  
  Miss Malini- 1947 was a Gemini film based on RK Narayan's famous novel Mr.Sampath. It was a story of a glib talker and a girl whom he lures into the filmworld.
  
  Kothamangalam Subbu himself acted in the role of Mr.Sampath, and most probably wrote the lyrics for all the songs too. I am not sure about the MD-Gemini films were mostly done by S Rajeswara Rao those days-perhaps he did Miss Malini too, or was it Eemani Shankara Shastri, who also was part of Gemini those days?
  
  Among the songs, I seem to remember only MS Sundaribai's 'Andha naalum vandhidaatho', MS Sundarbai-TV Rathnam's 'Baley joru joru baley joru pattana vaasam' and TV Rathnam's classical 'Sri Saraswathi namosthuthe'- all great songs.
  
  Vasan made the same story in Hindi too as Mr.Sampath in 1952. Mothilal acted in the title role. Eemani was the MD. PB Srinivas sang his first film song in this film. Other songs were by Shamshad Begum, Geetha Roy and Jikki.
  
  Cho filmed the same story, in his own style -Mr.Sampath-1972. MD-MSV. Songs include Orey kelvi unaikketpen-MSV, Alangaram pothumadi-TMS-Manorama and Aarambam yaaridam-SPB-PS.
