I have generally not seen actors or actresses using initials or their native place along with their names. But it appears this is very common among singers.
Examples are S.P.Balasubramaniam, K.J.Yesudas,
K.S.Chithra,P.Suseela ,TMS,Sheerkazhi,Chidambaram Jayaraman etc. There are many of this nature. This may appear to be a stupid talk, but does anybody feel, musicians have a reason to do so, from the point of view of luck etc. Would like to invite TFM debate members to share their views although this may appear as a silly topic.

Traditionally, musicians in south India prefix their names with the names of their villages or towns (Kunnakkudi, Valayapatti, Ariyakudi, Chembai, Palakkad, Madurai, Thiruvavaduthurai and a great many other places which are synonymous with the great singers they have produced). I guess the trend has continued in filmdom as well.

Chitra, BTW, is not as much known as `KSChitra' anywhere else except DF:-) The simplest example will be AIR where they simply say Chitra...likewise, Jency / Hariharan / Unnikrishnan / Sujatha / Deepan Chakravarthy / Uma Ramanan / Jikki / Kamalhasan/ Ilayaraja -are more examples of famous TF singers who do not use initials:-)

Trichy Loganathan, Bangalore Ramani Ammal, P.B.Sreenivas, the list continues.....
But it is very rare in North Indian music scene,
it appears.

Clarification: M.S. Venkataraman is none other than Murali Shankar (MS) of TFMDF :-)))) I predict that he is going to be a great singer one of these days!!!!!!!!!!!!

You guys are probably referring to S. V. Venkataraman ("Kaatrinile varum geetham" by MS)
(MS does'nt stand for Murali Sankar in this case !).

Kutty, DF is shortform of newtfmpage DF (Discussion Forum). `DFers' is a common usage in this DF:-)

Eden, thanks for the information. I just overlooked it.
karthi, enna panna mudiyum, think panni think panni thala appadiye thirinju poyachu. However, thanks for the feed back.
Anyway, I will also share some other thinking. There are certain MDs and musicians who come in jointly represented. Viswanathan-Ramamurthy, Kalyanji Anandji etc(examples of MDs).
The musicians of these category are , I presume, only in classical and semiclassical scenerio.Examples are Bombay Sisters, Hyderabad Sisters, Mamblam sisters, Jaya-Vijaya etc.
When these people, specially the MDs, come in such
a manner to do a music for a song, do they categorize their responsibilities like one for instrumental and other for the recital of the song
or one for rhythm and other for melody like that?
Or is it jus a joint effort? Persons having clue may please comment.
