one more fact I like to meniton in this discussion, I always recommmend to use something like triton, basically being a trained piano player when i use domestic keyboards like psr or keyboard controller, it is too light ,.meaning when i play 1/32 notes the speed is quite high - i call it "pace" , if the keyboad is not heavy it simply jumps out the stand. Yes! it does happen. I have the pleasure of making few controllers fly out of stand during recording, Like we punch some heavy hits, keyboard must take it. a heavy keyboard is a must to go pro. It should be heavy enough to hold the pressure and weight we put on it and it should not move when we play at high speed.

please dont confuse the above weight with weighted keyboard action. I ment the actuall phyiscal weight of the keyboard.

I have an evolution MK361C midi controller. but the keys,I mean feel and when you play on them comes nowhere near that of triton or yamaha its more like toyish. but other than that its excellent.

I am trying to finish a few pieces by this summer for a demo CD. I will surely let you know once I have something and would be glad to have your feedback.
Srikanth:can I have your email? I have been thinking of getting in touch with you. We have actually had some discussions in Prasannas board, some of which were pretty interesting (carnatic minimalism etc.,). by the way, how can we hear your latest works? I only see 3 songs in your site (thats the limit imposed by the mp3 artists site I guess)
Anyways, since we have a commmon interest it would be good to interact. I especially have a lot to learn from you, given you have been doing this for much longer. (I started "seriously" writing music about a year ago, although I have a carnatic training from my teens)

We get all of them in india, mostly comes from Singapore, pricewise I have found it is slightly more in india. But one more good factor is most of these instruments have dual power supply (110-220) so our investment is protected where ever we are
If you hear the song Kanakanden adi thozi from Parthiban kannavu , the ghtatam sounds are from Roland hand sonic, this is pretty much a new gadget but its been used already in kollywood.

I thought this article was interesting...related to sampling technology.

just a note that the previous article is actually quite old (1999, but still old!), but still well written.
I think Gigastudio (the software that can stream huge samples directly from hard disk) was pretty new in the market at that time.

Hi Santosna,
I am studying this course in Bristol,U.k.But if you are in London or somewhere in U.K you can find colleges having a course about Recording technology,or Creating music technology.I don't know about India(If you are from India). It is useful but you have to do them in practice.I am in 1st year beginner but I don't want to Continue another 2 yrs in u.K and going back home.
About Home recording you can Read books of Paul white from Sos (Sound on Sound)Publications.

Srik,
I have a question based on a passage you made earlier. I have a Yamaha PSR 540 and it produces some astonishing sounds which I am unable to get in my sound card (PC). It has voices numbering upto 750 or so (says something like XG or so). How can I get those sounds in my PC ? (in my PC, as you said, it has only 127 fixed instruments)
---------------------------
"8.Bank: General Midi supports only 128 instruments. To over come this limitation we choose different banks. Set of Instruments are grouped or arranged based on the nature of the instruments, these are called banks. Each bank can hold 128 instruments or patches. Cakewalk supports 128 ports x 128 banks x 128 patches meaning you can program /play about 2097152 instruments together using cakewalk. Something like hooking up 128 instruments that has 128 banks (nothing I know in this planet with 128 ports) and each bank having 128 I instruments. Triton has 6 banks (A-F) assume we hook up 128 tritons. With 6 banks in each triton we get about 98304 instruments for us work with. Here Calk walk is actually working 50% of its capacity. :)

in a typical sampler like cakewalk, 127 is not the max number of instruments but Instrument Banks! Each Bank can have 128 patches, so there you go with > 10000 instruments!

in my post i meant sequencer not sampler for cakewalk...just not to confuse anyone
