Sadhna Sargam is the greatest singer in Tamil films today.
She won a national award last year for a tamil song from the film "Azhagi".
She has contributed a lot to Tamil people by singing so many lovely tamil film songs.
ALL her tamil songs are VERY popular.
But there is no thread for Sadhna in this website. How unfair?
So I am starting this thread which she really really really really deserves.
Let us discuss sweet Sadhna's tamil songs here.

I believe ARR introduced her in Tamil with "Nenje nenje" from Ratchakan, which she sang with KJY.

Background
Sadhana is the daughter of reputed classical singer and music teacher Neela Ghanekar. Influenced by the musical environs of her home, Sadhana began to learn singing and classical music from the age of four. She won a Central Government scholarship at the age of 10 and this led to a 7 - year learning stint under Pandit Jasraj. From childhood she was also learning and performing with the late maestro Vasant Desai for his documentaries, children’s films and stage shows. Desai advised her mother that Sadhana was competent enough to handle both classical and light music and should remain in touch with both, as her mother wanted her to take up light singing. In fact, it was Desai who recommended that she learn under Pandit Jasraj.
Early Days
Sadhana’s mother knew arranger – composer Anil Mohile, who was then arranging music for Kalyanji – Anandji. He introduced Sadhana to them, and she was in the children’s chorus in ‘Pam Pararampam, Bole Jeevan Ki Sargam’ sung by Kishore Kumar in G. P. Sippy’s Trishna (1978).
Impressed by her voice and skills (she had a private audience with him and sang ‘Humko Man Ki Shakti Dena’ from Guddi), Kalyanji took her under his wing and designed says Sadhana gratefully, a “complete course in music for me”. This included a special emphasis on ‘bhaav’ (expression), modulations and Urdu diction, which Sadhana learnt under a moulvi (Muslim priest) sent by Kalyanji.
Struggle and Rise
Sadhana made her playback debut in Kanku Pagli, a Gujarati film with their music. Her first Hindi song was the solo ‘Door Nahin Rehna’ in their Rustom. However, Rustom got delayed and was released only in 1985, and Sadhana’s first released film was Subhash Ghai’s Vidhaata (1982) in which she was one of the seven singers for Padmini Kolhapuri in the chartbuster ‘Saat Saheliyan’.
Sadhana continued to sing for her mentors in films like Taqdeer, Pighalta Aasmaan, Raj Tilak, Karishma Kudrat Ka (in which she was the only female singer) and others, but it was only with ‘Har Kisiko Nahin Milta’ (Jaanbaaz / 1986) that she was really noticed. Highly impressed, Rajesh Roshan shouldered the entire score of Khudgarz on her. This film and its songs like ‘Yahin Kahin Jiyara Hamar’, ‘Mai Se Meena Se’ and ‘Log Kehte Hain’ also demonstrated her range, as all three duets were different.
Khudgarz was followed by Khoon Bhari Maang (1988) and Sadhana also began to sing for other composers like Anu Malik, R. D. Burman, Anand – Milind and sparingly under Laxmikant – Pyarelal. Her main hits continued to be with Rajesh Roshan, which included ‘Jab Koi Baat Bigad Jaaye’ / Jurm, ‘Radha Bina Hai’ / Kishan Kanhaiya, and songs in Dariya Dil, Aasmaan Se Ooncha and Jaisi Karni Waisi Bharni.
She got a major boost from Tridev (Kalyanji – Anandji – Viju Shah) in 1989 in which she shone in ‘Main Teri Mohabbat Mein’ and ‘Gajar Ne Kiya Hai Ishara’, effortlessly overshadowing co – singers Alka Yagnik and Sapna Mukherjee (also Kalyanji – Anandji proteges) in the latter song.
Top Hits
In the early 90’s, Sadhana soon emerged as the busiest singer after Alka Yagnik. Anand – Milind, Na 1000 deem – Shravan, Anu Malik, Jatin – Lalit, Bappi Lahiri and Dilip Sen – Sameer Sen were among the frontline composers who used her dulcet assured voice. The list of her greatest hits include ‘Saat Samandar’ (Vishwatma) and ‘Na Kajre Ki Dhar’ (Mohra) under Viju Shah. ‘Bhangra Pale’ under Rajesh Roshan in Karan Arjun: ‘Maine Ghar Choda Hai’ (Dil) and ‘Kya Mausam Aaya Hai’ (Anari) under Anand – Milind. With Jatin – Lalit she had ‘Pehla Nasha’ (Jo Jeeta Wahi Sikandar) and the title song of Raju Ban Gaya Gentelman: ‘Imli Ka Boota’ (Saudagar / Laxmikant – Pyarelal), ‘Teri Ummeed Tera Intezar’ (Deewana) and the title track of Dil Kya Kya Kasoor under Nadeem – Shravan.
From the mid – 90’s, Sadhana has definitely lost ground, but as her mother says, “with four singers supported by four big music companies, non - aggressive singers like my daughter cannot move ahead so fast only on merit.” In the post – 1995 period, Sadhana has sung much less, but has had a decent share of hits and has enhanced her skills, progressing in her art, devoting considerable time to Kala Veer Academy (Kalyanji’s training school for upcoming talent) and to her pursuit of classical music, with the Academy and otherwise. Her classical performance at the recent Dinanath Mangeshkar Centenary celebrations in Kolhapur won her rave reviews and frank admiration from none other than Hridaynath Mangeshkar.
Her post – 1995 hits include ‘Dil Mein Kuch Hone Laga’ (Army / Anand – Milind), ‘Kuch Mere Dil Ne Kaha’ (Tere Mere Sapne) and the songs of Gupt (Viju Shah), ‘Chanda Re’ (Sapnay) and the classic ‘Banno Rani’ (1947 – Earth) under A. R. Rahman and other popular songs in films like Ziddi, Duplicate, Masoom and others.
She has also sung a Ghazal album with Pankaj Udhas and regularly sings the successful cover – version albums on Wings Music, besides doing regional films and albums.
Style
At first hearing, Sadhana’s voice – quality and singing style are amazingly similar to Lata Mangeshkar. She is unwittingly responsible for the break – up between mentors Kalyanji – Anandji and Lata because Kalyanji compared her to the senior singer. However, in her songs in the recent serial Noorjehan, she has sung at a lower scale in which she seems to resemble Asha Bhosle more! The fact remains that Sadhana (who was given the attractive suffix Sargam by mentor Kalyanji) has evolved a distinct style of her own over the years. With her thorough foundation she cannot be a mimic even if she wants to. Unfairly branded as only a ‘sober’ singer, Sadhana has proved her range with her songs, from the devotional ‘Mohan Radha Ka Sansaar’ / Noorjehan to the seductive ‘Main Teri Hoon Jaanam / Khoon Bhari Maang. Her recent frothy number ‘Banno Rani’ from 1947 – Earth is evidence enough to silence those who label her as a staid, ‘classically – oriented’ singer.
Current Status
Barely busy in Bollywood today, Sadhana is unperturbed and continues to get (and expect) work on merit. She is planning to do a private album and has just released Humsafar, in which she has a couple of songs with Pankaj Udhas.
“Her goals are much higher than just playback singing,” says mentor Kalyanji proudly about his most illustrious protégé. Today Sadhana Sargam is recording an album with Roop Kumar Rathod that has been composed by none other Ustad Amjad Ali Khan. She continues to train rigorously in her favourite medium of classical music.

Her bio is on her website, sadhanasargam.com. Judging by her parents' last name, Ghanekar, she is of Marathi origin?
